This unit is specifically designed for the solo operator who benefits from an 'all in one' mixer/recorder. The system can be configured with 4-6 lavs plus 1-2 booms and IFB monitoring with virtually... read more [+] no cables in the way for a clean, organized integrated rig. While not designed for cart use, it works just as well for an additional boom op.March 7, 2013 Music Background: Recording Engineer-- of 30 years Simple to use with minimal learning curve. Perhaps the best and most intuitive menu EVER. Instead of rolling through multiple screens for setup, the 664 uses a two step process. Need to adjust channel #2-- simple hit the PFL on channel #2 and all of that channels functions come up. Ditto for any stage of work flow. Expect all of the standard Sound Devices build quality and superb audio. One complaint which hopefully will be addressed in a firmware update. The L/R stereo masters have 4 independent sets of outputs which is a waste. One set of outputs should have been reserved as 'inputs' thus providing the integration of a secondary mixer...Why not? This is a standard feature found on many small mixers. It would really expand the effective use of the 664. The L/R master outputs already come equipped with separate record and gain adjustment....just add the ability to patch in an additional line level mixer or an extra pair of lavs. This would increase the input record tracks from 6 to 8. close [-]
