The Latest in CP Series Piano Realism!

In 1976,Yamaha released the first CP series stage pianos. These "electric grands" became instant classics with their authentic sound and live performance convenience. Thirty years later, Yamaha celebrates those milestone keyboards by unveiling the latest and greatest in the CP series, the CP33 stage piano. Drawing on Yamaha's rich tradition and experience, these instruments give the live performer all the sound and expressiveness of a superbly miked grand piano with the portability and versatility of a modern digital instrument. Introducing the new standard in stage pianos - the CP33.

Yamaha CP33 Stage Piano at a Glance:
  • Authentic sound and playability for an inspiring experience
  • Advanced Graded Hammer Effect keyboard with authentic resistance
  • Premium-quality stereo samples including string resonance and key-off
  • Control your other gear from the CP33
  • Special Mono Piano sound ideal for live performance with a band
  • Panel Lock feature ensures your settings don't get changed
  • Realistic pedal control including "half-damper" effects

Authentic sound and playability for an inspiring experience
Like all fine instruments, the CP33 stage keyboard simply begs to be played. Sit down with one, and the instrument becomes an extension of your hands and your musical imagination. The authentic piano voices and rich expressiveness come alive at your touch, and the sound is big enough to blast through a full band onstage - yet nuanced enough to work magic in an intimate club.

Graded-Hammer Effect keyboard
Yamaha's extensive experience in crafting fine acoustic pianos helps them create the ultimate digital pianos. The advanced Graded Hammer Effect (GHE) action gives all keys an authentic resistance that increases from the top register to the lower - just as on an actual acoustic piano. Which means that you can naturally pound out thunderous low notes with your left hand and let the fingers on your right dance and fly with the high notes.

Premium-quality stereo samples including string resonance and key-off
In crafting the authentic sound of the CP33, Yamaha used meticulously recorded stereo samples of top-quality instruments, taken at various playing strengths, and included subtle elements such as String Resonance, Stereo Sustain, and even Key-Off Samples that capture the felt dampers muting the piano strings - providing the most authentic sounding and finely nuanced acoustic piano voices possible.

Control your other gear from the CP33
The CP stage pianos are also master keyboard controllers that give you full command of your gear. Play and control external tone generators (such as the MOTIF-RACK ES). Assign different voices to different keyboard sections and create multi-textured layers of sound. Four instrument Zones on the CP33 (two on the CP33), with panel sliders, let you easily tweak the level of each instrument as you play. You can also freely reassign the sliders and wheels to control other sonic characteristics of your gear, such as sound attack, decay, brightness and filter cutoff.

Special Mono Piano sound ideal for live performance
Step out front and make your presence known. The CP series has a special Mono Piano sound, complete with a compression effect, designed specifically for live performance. It has the punch and power to stand out, even in full band situations.

Panel Lock feature ensures your settings don't get changed
Onstage, you need to make sure everything goes smoothly. Sometimes an errant hand (yours or someone else's) can touch the panel controls and change your special settings, giving you a rude surprise in the middle of your performance. The Panel Lock button lets you prevent that, keeping all settings fixed and secure, until you're ready to change them yourself.

Realistic pedal control including "half-damper" effects
The CP series keyboards give you the same pedal control as an actual grand piano. The CP33 has a Sustain and an Aux jack (for Soft, Sostenuto, or even Expression). On certain piano sounds, Sustain can be partially applied - reproducing the "half-damper" effect of slightly muting the resonating strings on a real piano.

Yamaha CP33

I have owned several Yamaha and Roland stage pianos. Got the CP33 a few eeks back to try out and kept it. Same as other reviews, the keyboard is excellent. Just right and very easy to play for a full ... read more [+]hammer action. The two volume sliders are excellent for blending two tones either split or layered and this really leads to some interesting possibility combining accoustic with EP tones. The piano tones IMHO are amongst the very best I have played. Strings are also very good and combine nicely with layered piano. The layout is so simple and intuitive. I did not need to read the manual until I wanted to change some midi settings. BTW it was easy to sync up with my midi modules and arranger module which I use for solo gigs.
This is a piano for discerning players. It is not an organ or synth. It does a great job for what it is designed to do and at this price you won't go broke paying for it. I should add, it is not too heavy and is built with good materials. Feels like it will take some abuse if you are a road warrior. If you want a fairly simple KB with top quaility tones, get it! If you want thousands of synthy sounds or organ like sounds, get something else. I have the CP33 as a foundation and my Hammond SK1 on top as my lead instrument. The combination just about covers it all. BTW, I can play this KB for hours without getting tired hands. I just wanna keep playing it!!! close [-]

The Best

I have been playing piano and producing for 30 years. This is bar none the best electronic keyboard I have ever owned for two simple reasons:

1. The key action is unparalleled. If you l... read more [+]ove to play you are never going to want to stop playing these keys. They are to die for. I wish every manufacturer CARED about piano this much to provide such a beautiful set of keys. The first time I played them out of the box was like playing a grand for the first time

2. More importantly:THIS is THE piano sound you have always wanted in your studio. The piano is downright GORGEOUS. Crystal clear. Brilliant tone. Nuanced hammer sound effects. AMAZING dynamics from whisper quiet Chopin to banging , raucous rock and roll. I can just see the best of the best players demanding this and only this keyboard on the stage. It is a PLAYER'S dream. The electronic keys, organs, etc are also off the hook.

Oh, and it has a metronome. Are you kidding me? Simple but a major feature for students and pros alike.

TRUE piano players will appreciate this board like no other. I cannot get enough of it. I play it constantly. My wife says it sounds "gorgeous". The CP is addictive. Once you start playing you won't be able to stop

Best Yamaha product I have ever owned bar none. THANK YOU YAMAHA close [-]

Best choice for its price

After almost a year using the cp-33 i can easily say that it's one of the greatest stage piano for the most affordable price.
The feeling of the keys is unique. I would say the closest feeling... read more [+] to a grand acoustic. I play classical music, and i'm able to practise many hours daily without disturbing the house. I only use the main piano tone which is absolutely beautiful.
I found only one negative aspect with the sustain pedal. You can notice that a the end of a song, the fade out is either to slow or even never ends, so i have to cut the sound always at the end and not wait for the natural cut of the sustained notes. And i didn't understand why there wasn't a factory music stand in the box.
If your budget is that average, don't even think of another stage piano. CP33 will grant you great piano feelings. close [-]
