August 23, 2006 Music Background: Hobbyist Wiring can be a problem

The Crown CM311 has an awesome element. The frame is comfortable. The positioning capabilities are superior. The bad news is that the wiring doesn't hold up. I've owned 3 of these headsets...and s... read more [+]till tour with two of them...one is in repair right now. Each of my CM-311's have failed repeatedly from wire breakage where the wire leaves the support of the frame. I suppose it is because the wire can swing back and forth at this point and because it is anchored there, it will eventually break. Your average "on-the-road-fix-it-shop" can't patch the broken wire because it is too fragile. I will continue to use this mic in all my future shows because I love the quality of the sound...I will always keep a spare handy, because I KNOW the wire will eventually fail again. close [-]

Great sounding mic - can't be topped. A little trouble with breath noise from my nose, while not singing. A Crown tech recommended cutting a piece of foam from a mic windscreen and rubber banding... read more [+] it to the top (in between mic and nose). Haven't tried yet, but thought it was worth mentioning.February 1, 2005 Music Background: The first mic had a problem after almost two years - the back plate became loose from the mic element and caused all sorts of trouble.
