We are working with our friends at From Our Research Team:A New and Improved Guitar Practice Tool! We're not only hearing from student musicians, but also from professional touring players who can't live without their CD-GT1 Trainer for learning new music. Whether you're just starting out on your instrument or are a seasoned pro, the CD-GT1 offers the perfect way to learn your favorite artist's techniques. Now the new, improved CD-GT1mkII gives you even more practice tools!TASCAM CD-GT1mkII CD Trainer at a Glance:
Easy, fun to use practice aid If you can operate a CD player, you can use the CD-GT1. Take any standard compact disc by your favorite band and put it in the CD mechanism. Then plug your guitar directly into the CD-GT1's 1/4" input. Put on some headphones, set the volume, and start rocking! If you're a vocalist, you can do the same, substituting your microphone for the guitar. Slow Speed Audition helps you learn difficult licks In ancient times (like the 1970s), musicians would take a vinyl LP record and manually spin the record on a turntable, slowing it down to be able to better hear and understand the performances, like guitar solos and complex chord changes. With the CD-GT1, you get a training method that's even better. Not only can you slow down the speed of the CD by up to 50%, but you can do it without changing the pitch of the original material! After you learn the lick at a slow speed, you can increase the tempo in steps until you can match the original performance note for note! Also, you can change the pitch of the CD without changing the speed. Use this feature to "tune the CD" to your guitar. NEW metronome and Guitar Canceller for easier practice! Two of the improvements in the markII version of the CD-GT1 will really help you practice. First, a metronome can keep the beat when you are practicing without a CD - it's great for chord scale work. Plus, the CD-GT1 has a new Guitar Canceller effect that allows you to mute the CD's guitar part so that you can play along. In addition, the CD-GT1mkII features improved effects, including some nice vocal reverbs for when you sing along. Set up loops for rehearsing phrases You can set seamless in-out loop points with the CD-GT1. It will play the same section of music over and over again so you can focus on your playing. Use the footswitch input to start and stop the CD, or to scroll through effects. The CD-GT1 even provides a chromatic tuner so you always sound great when you play, and can run on batteries to take your show on the road. You can listen to the CD-GT1 via headphones, or use its Line Output to plug in speakers. There's never been a better or more affordable guitar/voice training tool than the CD-GT1mkII! ReviewsExcellent tool for practicing or learning
by Robb from Sterling Heights, Mi. USA
I am VERY pleased with this unit. With the ability to set start and end points for looping portions of a song, cue points for quickly jumping back to a given spot, key changing of the playback without... read more [+] affecting tempo, slowing down playback while staying in key, removing vocals or guitar from the playback to better hear what you need to hear.. this unit is perfect for learning tunes. It even plays rewritable cd's which means you can burn your mp3's to a reusable cd, stick em in the cd guitar trainer and begin playing and learning the song. It has many other features that I personally don't need, tuner, metronome, foot switch input for assorted control, user writable memory banks to store multiple effects. It also has a lot of effects (flange, chorus, overdrive, etc) but I definitately would not buy this to use as an effects processor! December 29, 2006 Music Background: Off and on 20 years guitars, bass, keyboards (not my day job) I have read reviews that say it sounds bad. It's true that the more you force the playback away from 'normal' (the more you change the key, slow the tempo, remove sound ranges, etc) the more the quality of the playback gets 'echo-ey or electronic sounding. With little or no 'mods' to the output it sounds like any other cd player. But it is made for practicing and figuring out songs, not as a cd player and to that end it is perfect. I also read where someone couldn't hear his connected guitar over the cd playback. There is a setting that controls the signal of both ranging anywhere from 100% cd playback and no guitar input to just the opposite so I'm guessing he just missed that setting. The only thing I would like to see changed in future versions would be improved sound quality when playback pitch and/or tempo is modified. close [-] Sweetwater Advice

I'm giving this handy little unit 3 1/2 stars which means just a little bit better than really good. Not quite great. There are several helpful features that struck a chord with me (pun intended). I can slow the track down without changing the key which means you I can play along at the slower speed without having to retune. The loop feature is easy to use and works well. I also like the idea of being able to change keys or tune the track - easier than tuning the guitar. Overall, the GT1 is pretty user friendly - full disclosure: I'm a gadget guy. The negative: I found the guitar input unusable. With the guitar input level wide open, I couldn't hear the guitar against the track. This meant couldn't use headphones. I ended up with both the guitar and the GT1 plugged into my practice amp. Despite the negatives, the unit works well for me. close [-]
