I normally don't write reviews unless I feel truly that the product deserves one. Let me start out by stating the obvious for those who have done research. This is a VERY clean mic with the lowest n... read more [+]oise I have ever heard from a mic. If you hear noise, I guarantee that it's from elsewhere in the chain. I upgraded to this mic skeptical of the price difference (like so many others). Don't hesitate, it's well worth it, and will save you money in the long run. The sound is crisp with a hint of high end sheen and a very nice top end presence, but not anywhere near brittle. I recorded my acoustic and with less than 15 minutes of placement, my guitar sounded as good as commercial releases. I also play euphonium, but I could never get the sound I wanted for recording. I used this mic, and with a mere hour of placement, it was perfect. The warm, mellow tone of the instrument is impossible to capture without sounding restrained with any other mic I've tried (virtually every dynamic and low to mid level condenser). And vox, let's just say it's a charm and sits perfectly in the mix, no matter what or who you're recording. Save yourself several headaches and buy this mic, it works well on everything. close [-]

Simply wonderful mic! A dream on acoustic guitars. I have got much results from this mic on vocals than with the Blue kiwi which costs more than twice the amount. Durable and well made. LOVE IT!

Stuart NivenI was lucky enough to have access to a pair of these C 414 B-XL IIs very early in their production for a session tracking drums with a Neve console and a rack of Neve 1064 pres. As drum over heads I was in awe! Simply amazing at capturing every nuance of the harmonic detail in the cymbals and tone of the drum set. During overdubs I had to do some electric guitar parts and plugged one of my new C 414 B-XL IIs straight into the pres onboard the 003. Still, they sounded amazing! These mics rock - overheads, electric guitar, vocals, acoustic guitar... Still a part of the vintage 414 heritage, but better!
