Customer Reviewsfrom Homestead, FL December 6, 2011 Music Background: Engineer, Producer, Singer/Songwriter, musician AWESOME DEAL!!I got this AWESOME AKG condenser mic at an AWESOME price. This mic rocks as a vocal mic and in front of instruments as well. from Santiago, Chile May 17, 2010 Music Background: Productor, Recording Engineer. Best mic for voice. In my studio I have lots of microphones medium-high level as the Rode Nt-2a, Nt-1a, Audiotechnica At-3035, At-4040, At-4060, Akg c3000b, etc, and I bought two weeks ago and I must say C4000b which is the best. I dare say that to me more than the C414 or other higher level. So far the best microphone I have for the voices (I have not a U87 or a TLM). Great capture of the low frequencies of voices and very sharp in the treble. Very good microphone, I recommend 100%. from Albuquerque, NM June 29, 2007 Music Background: Owner, On Fire Productions, music production studio Why is this mic not even more popular?I just don't get it. This is an absolute premium vocal mic that has not yet gotten the credit it deserves. As a pro studio owner, I have some heavy hitting mics, such as a U87 and even better, a U67. This mic stacks up. In the world of mics that are so sensitive to the 5-8k range they pick up every sound the mouth can make (many unwanted!), mics with a beefy vintage sound and smooth top end are a welcome change. I think its unfortunate that the mics that sell do so because they "wow" people with hyped highs that sound "hi fidelity" instead of sounding warm and full. The C4000b offers a pleasant, smooth sheen. It may not do as well on acoustic guitars (boomy), but for vocals, kik, guitar cabs, and bass cabs, it excels. Lay some hard vocals into this mic and listen as it absorbs the harshness and turns it sweet. Croon into this mic and let its already silky tone enhance male and female vocals alike. If you need an all in one mic in this price range, there may be better ones (like an NT 2000 maybe) but if you are looking to add a juicy vintage vibe to a growing collection, get it!Have Fun!! from Western MA September 14, 2010 Music Background: Recording Engineer, Studio Owner An unbeatable valueI bought this mic a few years back when I was looking for a better-than-average vocal mic to use on a male vocalist for tracking on an album. I already owned an AKG C3000B and Rode NT1-A, but desired something a bit more rich sounding. This mic totally delivers on vocals! It provides a clear and balanced sound that's perfect for vocals (add a high-shelf boost of about 1.2db at 10k for some beautiful "air"). I also had been using my Rode NT1-A in combination with an NT-5 for recording acoustic guitars, but as soon as I tried the C4000B on the guitar body (in omni mode) in combination with an AKG C1000s pointed at the 12th fret, I was blown away at how full and beautiful the acoustic guitars sounded! My only suggestion here is to roll off a few db of low end on the C4000B, as it does tend to be a bit boomy in this application. I don't like this mic on overheads or electric guitar amps. My only real complaint about this mic is the shockmount. It's the same shockmount they use for the C414's and costs $120 to replace. One day, my shockmount took a 6' fall and broke in 2 places. Note: super glue DOES NOT work well on this type of plastic. I assume they make these flimsy so they'll make money from people replacing broken ones. Oh well. Bottom line: Fantastic mic for the money.from new concord,ky November 12, 2007 Music Background: over 35 years recording and playing music live studio owner recording artist over 35 yearsI own a akg c4000b and they are a great mic and for the price i've never found any thing better but I've owned a neuman u87 ai come on there is no comparison neuman u87 is like a king of mic's and there is no comparing it to a akg c4000b but with that in mind the akg 4000 is also a great mic but not a neuman u 87 ai.from Central Jersey August 8, 2006 Music Background: Studio Engineer/producer/editor great value for the moneyI own four C4000B mics and have used them on lots of difterent sources when my budget was rather tight. While I now manage a full function studio, I still enjoy the sound that the C4000B gives me. It is well built and when one of them took a fall from 5 feet, only the pad and pattern selection switches were damaged. The AKG repair service was fast and flawless. Generally speaking, male tenor/alto vocals are captured rather naturally but I stay away from using it for distance micing of over 6 feet. Female vocals almost always sound good. I don't believe that the C4000B belongs above a kit; the snare and cymbols sound harsh and the kick sounds flat. It shines on steel string acoustic guitar (pop styles, folk etc) but less so on nylon. It sounds great rear micing guitar cabs for some reinforcement. It also does very well in stereo applications on piano in xy or ortf, though clearly the C4000B's size and the shape of grand pianos make this hard in very cramped rooms. When i bought my first C4000B, the price was lower because it was shipped in the standard AKG blue cardboard box. As of 8.06 they ship in flightcases and seem to be more expensive, because the circuitry hasnt changed. I prefer this microphone to the AT4050 with one exeption; the 4050 sounds great on kick drum about 2 feet out.

from Boston May 24, 2006 Somewhat surprisinggiven that one thinks of AKG as a pro company that has uncompromising quality. The sound I got was with this mic was overly rich and mellow and I'd say very far from accurate. Acoustic guitar pick noise simply doesn't make it through it due to the 6-dB drop above 15 kHz. For flamenco guitar, definitely would not recommend it. Also be careful what you buy since it seems that AKG is outsourcing a LOT of its production out to Poland, and Polish AKGs don't have the same reputation for quality. With this mic I also got a lot of static (or RFI) coming in from somewhere that I couldn't eliminate in any way. My chinese-made AT mics actually sounded a lot less noisy than the AKG and I believe that AT seems to have better quality control in China than AKG in Poland, which is where my mic apparently comes from.

from Bethlehem, Pa USA January 9, 2006 Great mic, Great price! The AKG C4000B is an excellent mic for capturing vocals both sung and spoken, and equally impressive milking acoustic instruments due to its natural sounding wide frequency range. When I use this mic in my studio it receives nothing but praise from all my clients. If you buy just one mic in this price or higher for your studio, buying the AKG 4000C would not be a mistake.
