From Our Research Team:Brings Out the Essence of Your Recorded VocalsAt Sweetwater, we know what professionals in the audio world look for in their microphones: clarity, precision, sensitivity to the kind of nuances in a voice or an instrument that make a performance or recording special. AKG microphones do just that. They're legendary for their excellent response and the quality treatment they give sound. The C4000B is the latest in AKG's line of large diaphragm, premium microphones. Selectable polar patterns make the C4000B suitable for both studio and stage, while the optimized transformerless output stage ensures accurate low frequency and self-noise so low it's practically non-existent. With the C4000B you'll capture open, clear, and natural highs along with smooth lows - perfect for miking vocals, strings, brass or woodwinds, to name just a few applications. All electric contacts are hard gold-plated to prevent aging and corrosion, and a two-part, heavy-duty body protects the internal components from damage due to mishandling. A beautiful microphone with an even more beautiful sound.• High sensitivity • Extremely low self-noise • High SPL capability for wide dynamic range • Three polar patterns switchable on the microphone: omni, cardioid, and hypercardioid • Preattenuation pad switchable on the microphone for added SPL capability • Bass cut filter switchable on the microphone for suppression of low-frequency noise • Universal phantom powering to DIN/IEC standards (12, 24, or 48 VDC) • Integrated wind and pop screen for high rejection of wind and pop noise • Complete with H 100 spider type shock mount • W 4000 external wind and pop screen for extremely difficult miking situations included

I got this AWESOME AKG condenser mic at an AWESOME price.December 6, 2011 Music Background: Engineer, Producer, Singer/Songwriter, musician This mic rocks as a vocal mic and in front of instruments as well. Best mic for voice.

In my studio I have lots of microphones medium-high level as the Rode Nt-2a, Nt-1a, Audiotechnica At-3035, At-4040, At-4060, Akg c3000b, etc, and I bought two weeks ago and I must say C4000b which is ... read more [+]the best. I dare say that to me more than the C414 or other higher level.May 17, 2010 Music Background: Productor, Recording Engineer. So far the best microphone I have for the voices (I have not a U87 or a TLM). Great capture of the low frequencies of voices and very sharp in the treble. Very good microphone, I recommend 100%. close [-] Why is this mic not even more popular?

I just don't get it. This is an absolute premium vocal mic that has not yet gotten the credit it deserves. As a pro studio owner, I have some heavy hitting mics, such as a U87 and even better, a U... read more [+]67. This mic stacks up. In the world of mics that are so sensitive to the 5-8k range they pick up every sound the mouth can make (many unwanted!), mics with a beefy vintage sound and smooth top end are a welcome change. I think its unfortunate that the mics that sell do so because they "wow" people with hyped highs that sound "hi fidelity" instead of sounding warm and full. The C4000b offers a pleasant, smooth sheen. It may not do as well on acoustic guitars (boomy), but for vocals, kik, guitar cabs, and bass cabs, it excels. Lay some hard vocals into this mic and listen as it absorbs the harshness and turns it sweet. Croon into this mic and let its already silky tone enhance male and female vocals alike. If you need an all in one mic in this price range, there may be better ones (like an NT 2000 maybe) but if you are looking to add a juicy vintage vibe to a growing collection, get it!June 29, 2007 Music Background: Owner, On Fire Productions, music production studio Have Fun!! close [-] An unbeatable value

I bought this mic a few years back when I was looking for a better-than-average vocal mic to use on a male vocalist for tracking on an album. I already owned an AKG C3000B and Rode NT1-A, but desired ... read more [+]something a bit more rich sounding. This mic totally delivers on vocals! It provides a clear and balanced sound that's perfect for vocals (add a high-shelf boost of about 1.2db at 10k for some beautiful "air"). I also had been using my Rode NT1-A in combination with an NT-5 for recording acoustic guitars, but as soon as I tried the C4000B on the guitar body (in omni mode) in combination with an AKG C1000s pointed at the 12th fret, I was blown away at how full and beautiful the acoustic guitars sounded! My only suggestion here is to roll off a few db of low end on the C4000B, as it does tend to be a bit boomy in this application. I don't like this mic on overheads or electric guitar amps. My only real complaint about this mic is the shockmount. It's the same shockmount they use for the C414's and costs $120 to replace. One day, my shockmount took a 6' fall and broke in 2 places. Note: super glue DOES NOT work well on this type of plastic. I assume they make these flimsy so they'll make money from people replacing broken ones. Oh well. Bottom line: Fantastic mic for the money. close [-]
