Among other microphones and capsules, I've owned the Blue B7 as well as this one. While the B7 is superb in nearly every application (needing a bit of eq to sit right in context), this capsule is mast... read more [+]erful in a specific set of recording tasks.March 23, 2013 Music Background: Recording Engineer It's designed as the "instant pop-vocal" sounding capsule, and that description is nothing short of dead on. With a good compressor, you need barely any eq (if any at all) to have this mic's signal sit exactly where it needs to in a mix of nearly any variety. If your signal source has a good deal of high-frequency content that you wish to enhance, then look no further. Vocals sound great from nearly every male and female singer. The better the voice, the better the result. It doesn't necessarily downplay a nasal voice the way the B7 does, but it doesn't need to. It's very forward in tone - trebly but never too bright. That's something hard to acheive in cheaper designs. Being a top-end enhancer, this mic also shines on strummed acoustic guitar, cymbals, and instruments with similar sonic footprints. It doesn't have the midrange thickness you might be looking for if you record a great deal of backing vocals, guitar amps and other material. You'll end up basically using this as a workhorse lead vocal and acoustic guitar mic, probably opting for other mics to record other sources. So, if you need a great mic for lead/small group backing vocals and acoustic guitars, this could be the one. The key is to use other mics for other things. close [-]
