From Our Research Team:

A Lambo Disguised as a Bass Head

When talking bass head performance, how high is high? If you need to go "all the way", we have a suggestion: TC Electronic's Blacksmith. The name kinda says it all. TC has cobbled together fearsome power with jaw-dropping sound shaping capabilities and an exhaustive feature set to give you - the pro bassist - the ultimate tool. Blacksmith unleashes a staggering 1600 watts (4500 watts peak) of power. With this head in your arsenal, suffice it to say that you will never again want for power. Raw power is not very useful without a sophisticated delivery system, and this is where Blacksmith handily separates itself from the crowd of megawatt monsters.

As a bassist, tone is your mantra, and Blacksmith has you covered with a motherlode of cutting-edge TC sound-shaping innovations. Whereas most solid-state amps attempt to replicate tube sound with a single paltry preamp tube, Blacksmith's TubeTone lifts the salient characteristics of a tube preamp and power amp to give you classic tube warmth that you can dial up to massively punchy, full-boat overdrive.

TC has fitted Blacksmith with SpectraComp, which has received praise from players worldwide. SpectraComp essentially applies compression on a per-string basis, resulting in smooth, even compression across your entire instrument. So, whether you play finger-style, with a pick, or slap 'n' pop - your low string will no longer dominate the compressor.

Voiced to give you plenty of tweaking options, Blacksmith's EQ is comfortably familiar right off the bat - but there's a secret weapon lurking underneath: each tone control can go semi-parametric, letting you spike or surgically remove any frequency, then store the settings as a preset.

Blacksmith gives you three onboard user memories for instantaneous switching between, say, your Jazz and your Rick - or perhaps your 4 and 5-string basses. You can also create three entirely different tones - vintage, modern, and overdrive, for instance - for one bass. Trust us, you'll get hooked on this feature. If your hands have better things to do than surf presets, add the optional RC4 floor remote, and you can switch effortlessly between your stored tones without letting go of the strings.

Prefer to stay in tune? That's a good thing, and Blacksmith can help. Push the Mute button and you get a full-resolution tuner 'light ring' to get you quickly and accurately in tune. No hand to spare? Step on the RC4 floor remote. Both speaker and DI outputs are muted automatically while tuning. The tuner is always active - only without the light ring - even when you haven't pushed the Mute button. That's just cool.

Blacksmith is a serious professional tool, and pro touches abound - such as its integrated studio-grade DI. This line driver output is transformer-balanced and galvanic-isolated from the rest of the amp, so it's always free of ground loops and hum. And long cable runs are not an issue - Blacksmith will draw at least 300' of cable with no audio quality loss. Running Pro Tools or Logic? Blacksmith's AES/EBU digital recording output lets you record directly to your DAW of choice. For maximum flexibility, it's S/PDIF compatible and may be switched pre/post in the preamp section.

Capable of handling cabinet combinations all the way down to 2 ohms, Blacksmith gives you the flexibility of driving up to four of TC's RS410 cabinets simultaneously. (16 tens - now that's a stack!) You can set Blacksmith for 8, 4 or 2 ohms, so whether you need a club setup or a stadium rig capable of moving mountains of air, Blacksmith can do it all. As they say: no job is too big or too small.

If you're looking for what may likely be the last bass head you'll ever need, TC Electronic's Blacksmith deserves your serious consideration. It's that good. With its seamless blend of brute power and elegant sophistication, we're thinking Blacksmith must be a Lamborghini disguised as a bass head.
