A Drum Machine in a Stompbox

Take hands-free control of your drum machine with the Singular Sound BeatBuddy drum machine pedal. This compact and innovative drum machine is completely controllable with just a tap of your foot. It's loaded with 200 songs covering 21 different styles, including rock, country, jazz, blues, and more. Perfect for one-man bands, singer/songwriters, practices, and more, the BeatBuddy is easy to use and sounds great since it uses actual recordings and loops of real drummers. Take your playing to the next level with the Singular Sound BeatBuddy drum machine pedal.

8 new firmware updates

Not convinced you need a BeatBuddy? Here are some firmware updates that may change your mind:

  1. Settings Menu help system ("?") — Because who has time to read the manual when you wanna rock?
  2. Run from an external footswitch — Keep the BeatBuddy at eye level while using an external footswitch (sold separately) for loops, fills, and transitions. Everything BeatBuddy's onboard switch could do, an external switch can now control.
  3. New accent options — Have a one-shot you like? Now you can use it across all songs and parts, and configure its level for subtler or more obvious accents.
  4. Higher polyphony — 64 simultaneous instruments (increased from 24) means richer, fuller backing tracks.
  5. Bigger bass — Drum sets that include bass now sound fatter and more alive.
  6. Fill finessing — Now you can set drum fills to begin an 1/8th or 1/4 note after you press the switch, for smoother transitions.
  7. Delayed post-fill loop start — For more true-to-life drumming, BeatBuddy delays its loop start MIDI messages until after fills have completed.
  8. Bug fixes across the board — A host of bug fixes make the BeatBuddy more rock solid than ever.
Don't want to keep your beats in a box? The BeatBuddy pedal supports uncommon time signatures such as 5/4 and 7/8.

Big drums from a compact pedal

Get big-sounding, stylistically correct drum beats with the Singular Sound BeatBuddy drum machine pedal. Choose from 10 different drum kit sounds and over 20 music genres, including rock, blues, jazz, pop, Latin, metal, funk, punk, reggae, country, Brazilian, and many more. Take it from the Sweetwater crew — BeatBuddy has pretty much any style you're looking for. You can even choose odd time signatures, such as 5/4, 7/8, and others. This robust and easy-to-use drum machine is ideal for practicing, writing songs, and even gigging.

Control beats, fills, and transitions with your foot

Drum machines are great tools, but many of them are tough to use in a live situation. Singular Sound designed the BeatBuddy with a control scheme that is easy to understand and execute onstage while playing. Its single footswitch lets you start the song, insert drum fills that change each time, transition to different parts of the song, end the song, and more. Controlling a drum machine has never been easier. And with the optional 2-button footswitch, you can add accent hits, pause the drummer, scroll through songs, tap tempo, and more. Singular Sound's BeatBuddy lets you control every facet of your drummer with the tap of your toe.

The BeatBuddy footswitch starts, stops, and transitions beats with ease.
A USB port and SD card expansion slot suit the BeatBuddy pedal to your particular workflow.

Create custom content with ease

Creating custom content is easy on the Singular Sound BeatBuddy. You can use the BeatBuddy Manager software to combine beats, fills, and transitions to create custom songs. You can also upload General MIDI files of beats that you have programmed. BeatBuddy also supports WAV files for drum set sounds.

New favorite pedal!

I've been using the BeatBuddy Mini 2 for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it - but it is limited in functionality - even with the added Foot Switch. I finally saved up enough to buy the BIG BeatBuddy and after a little bit of learning and downloading software/firmware, it was ready to go. There is a bit of a learning curve with this drum machine. I made the mistake of accidentally deleting all the content from it but luckily Singular Sound Support has a backup folder download, so I was able to reinstall all the content. After watching a couple of videos on using the BeatBuddy Manager, I was able to create folders for my worship sets in church. This thing is going to be a game-changer in my worship sets. There are lots of different functions and settings you can go through to personalize this pedal to your liking. I also like being able to change the functions of the Foot Switch through the BeatBuddy settings.
One note about Sweetwater: I was able to find this pedal on another site for a cheaper price and Darius from SW was able to provide a refund for the difference - so awesome of this company to do this for their customers!

Blown away!

This little pedal is absolutely perfect for practice, open mic night, writing songs. I live in an area where I know noone so I am so happy to have a drumming solution for open mic night. This thing is easy to use, well built, and with 24 bit sound, sounds amazingly good. I can't believe how many different beats are in here. I've been using it since I got home from work and it's just so fun. This is exactly what my rig was missing. Highly recommend this. I can't believe there is no real competition, this is such a great idea, so cool.
Music background: I've played guitar on and off since I was 13 years old and I'm 42 now.

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I needed some drum sounds that were easy to use so I could make some quick backing tracks for cord progressions, lead improvisation, and for my timing. The Beat Buddy does it all. It was simple to use and provided me with instant results. I just plugged it into my effects chain and started using it immediately. It can grow with you also, with the additional SD card and the external control, the options are limitless. This was exactly what the doctor ordered.

Best drum module I've ever used!

I purchased the BeatBuddy to use as a midi drum module triggered by my Zendrum ZX2. I have used several different drum sound modules over the past 15-16 years (mostly Roland) and a handful of software packages. The amazing velocity layered kits available with the BB (and for purchase through their website) sound really, really good. And there's no perceptible latency when triggering it. Beyond that, I can customize the sounds and add my own using the software editor (I have already created a snare drag articulation for one kit and swapped the top velocity layer of a ride cymbal for a ride bell). Check out my video and you will see what a great drum sound module this pedal makes!

The Best Of What There Is

In the world of Drum Machines the Beat Buddy is (IMHO) the best of what is out there. It has a very sharp learning curve but once you get the hang of how the entire system operates it can become a very valuable tool for your performances. If you are using the Beat Buddy to help you practice at home then you will be able to use the pedal with all the Drum Beats right out of the box as it comes with an SD card full of beats from several genres of music. It's only when you get into the customization features that things get a bit tricky as you use your computer to access the "Beat Buddy Manager". All things are possible here with this pedal just put on your patience hat and don't get so discouraged that you want to return the pedal. My suggestion would be to not return it and instead figure out how it works because that's what I did and now the Beat Buddy is an essential part of my Solo Acoustic shows. The Beat Buddy pedal has changed my performances for the better. I give the pedal 5 stars because of its potential and performance.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Evan Mehre

Both as a bassist and as an organist, I rarely have an excuse to play with pedals the way my guitarist friends do, but this one makes the cut. The Singular Sound BeatBuddy is one of my favorite practice tools. I often struggle to nail down the feel of a song with just a metronome, but the BeatBuddy takes me out of that space completely. Not only is it a lot more fun to play along to an actual beat, but it's super easy to set up a realistic swing or shuffle. It's amazing how much this alone has helped me to improve on both instruments.
