ReviewsA great cheaper head, but could use more power
by Mark B-H from Boyne City, MI
I've been playing this for about a year, and I'm mostly happy with it. I'm running a p-bass through it, and it produces a fat sound. The two middle EQ controls are very, very nice to have. In fact,... read more [+] all the controls are nice and seem to do what they need to. The compressor works fine, but there is a slight click when it kicks in that isn't present on more expensive dedicated compressors. Is it something you'd hear during a gig? No way, but it still bugs me a bit when practicing. Finally, it could be louder. Note that you aren't supposed to turn it up much louder than halfway--I double-checked with Fender on this point, and they confirmed that running it for too long above half might drive the amp too hard and cause it to heat up and cause bad things. My understanding is that this is a common guideline with solid-state bass amps (I heard it from the manufacturer of my cab as well), but nonetheless, that means you're not getting 250 watts in actual practice. All this said, however, it sounds really good and is worth the money. close [-]
January 13, 2009 Music Background: 20 years of giggin' good head,...not great presence
by Joe from ca
This bass head is a good quality head. I played with it about a year or two, and it definently did the job for these smalls gigs that i was playing.never had an issue with it breaking, and belive me w... read more [+]e have put it through hell. I would say what pushed me away for this head is just the fact that it tires out during gigs,(it gets real muddy). and it doesnt have the power to stand up to say,..a fender deville. If your guitarist got that baby cranked up then your looking to be drwoned out, also it kind of looses it's punch in open areas. All in all for the price and the quality, it's probably the best you could get,... brand new. close [-]
