Well worth the price, with a couple of caveats

This if a fine product for straightforward General Midi purposes, with a few surprises both plus and minus.

First the plus: I was pleasantly surprised to find that this program let you select what tuning to use, so, for example, you can ask it to play a harpsichord in Werckmeister temperament.

Now the minuses: (1) It takes a while to load a new patch, so if you are playing a MIDI file that changes instruments in the middle, you may be greeted with silence for a while. (2) There seems to be a bug: When you install it, it asks whether you want to make it the default player for MIDI files. If you say yes, it does so, and clicking on a MIDI file launches the Bandstand player. It does not, however, load the file into the player or play it; you have to do that manually. (3) When I try to load Bandstand VST into my sequencer (Midi Maestro), the sequencer crashes when I exit. This is true even if I unload Bandstand VST before exiting the sequencer. Worse: The sequencer vendor cannot reproduce the problem on his machine. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with this one.

But these problems are relatively minor, and you get an awful lot of music for a low price.

I have used everything from soundfonts to other forms of midi file sound sets. This product sounds pretty darn good. My true test is with the orchestral instrument parts (strings,oboes,violins, etc) I give them a three star rating only because some orchestral soundfonts are better. Overall midi song playback is good (I use 512 mb memory and a 1.6 gig PC).
