Great recorder for small bucks!
by MikeB from Methuen, MA, January 2008
Music Background: Hobbyist
For such a little device, it packs a big punch!
Every home musician or small band should have one of these handy. The built-in microphones, line-in and guitar-in inputs allow you to start recording as soon as you digest the hefty users manual.
The onboard effects are plenty and sound good, as does the rhythm machine. A little experience programming drum machines will help a lot.
I love it BUT...

Love the machine, hate the manual. 6 mos & I still can't record an "Arrangement" any way I try. I've been recording since 1958 mono and I've never stopped. So I've been around a while. Someone please help this old rocker!!
This thing is so sweet!!
by Paul from San Mateo, CA, USA, February 2007
Music Background: Amateur musician of 30 yrs.
This is my 4th attempt at getting a nice multi-track practice recorder for guitar playing. I've had Opcode's stuff (with an Audiomedia III card, & Lexicon's defunct interface), and Steinberg + Lexicon's interface and Digidesign Protools + a rackmount interface, and finally a Tascam multi-track interface (with faders and all talking to Steinberg on the PC).
But all of those had way too much overhead and were tied to a computer and a hassle to use to be with me whereever I jammed.
This thing is so small, easy to use, and the stereo condenser mics sound fantastic. It is PERFECT for jamming, recording riffs, and the drum machine is wild! So many great built in genre-specific patterns plus the ability to enter and edit my own, with different kits.
It looked good in the write-ups, but actually having it and using it, I am even much more impressed.
BOSS' BR-600 fit the bill for me...
by Kevin BRUTON from Cleveland, OH, October 2006
Music Background: Hobbyist/Semipro player
THe BOSS BR-600 is truly a great little machine: amazing onboard EFX, great clean sound (especially from it's onboard mic!), and easy controls made it an easy choice for me. I jacked into it with my keyboard (it has three inputs, and you can even plug your guitar right into it!) and started laying down tracks (it comes with a 128MB CF card!) and I was completely blown away by the clarity of the D/A converters. I employed the onboard drum machine (which does not take up track space until you bounce it into your song!)and I came up with a pretty good tune. Drawbacks? Well... It does not have MIDI, so you will need a foot pedal (or very good timing) to remote sync it. Otherwise, I have nothing but praise for this compact studio.
