Singer Song writer .now engineer

Believe me when I tell you !!!

Ok Here's the deal , I have spent so much money going into recording studio's since 1986 ,that If I had saved half ? I would own a world class recording studio ! Ok lesson learned. Times have changed .The recording business is losing so many clients ! Believe me ! I am one of them , I have a house 3 kids and plenty of bill's . Who has $50 buck's an hour plus anymore to through away ,and let me tell you ,unless your an old Pro like myself ? You need a lot more time to record anything ! Money Wasted
UNTIL NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!! I stepped up and bought the BR 1200 cd , I put this off for the past two years ,looking at them ,asking people about them ,wondering if they would even sound good ,and I looked at all of them ,read review's ,everything I could find out,I did .
But 4 month's ago I ran into a small lump of cash ,and I thought about booking sometime at my Producers Home studio ($50) an hour ,thinking Hey I could record 3 more tunes with this cash !! STOP HERE
I said ,No more . I took the plunge .I bought the Br 1200 ,It was just what I needed . Ok ,Here we go ,What to do first ? I got it home ,opened it up ,and was Scared to death ,I've spent the past 20 years on the other side of the glass . I'm not an engineer.
You don't need to be one ,I read the manual ,easy to understand ,It was my Bible for the first 3 weeks after that I don't think I've ever looked at it again.
I bought a cheap mic ,The at3035 and A nice pair of monitors K6 and I started to lay tracks ,I play drums Piano ,guitar and mainly a vocalist .I write all my own music .
So I really need no one else .I do it all. I use the At3035 as an overhead on my drums and a Audix d6 on my kick ,the Br1200 only has 2 XLR phantom in puts ,so you need to be creative ,let me tell you !! The drums sound great& Huge !!!!
Tracking on th 1200 is eay as eating a piece of pie ,and I like to do that ,lol
You will be blown away by the sound ,The quality ,this machine does it all .Radio ready sounds ,the built in effects are Great ,Vocal sound great !! I can't ues enough of these (!!!!!!!!!!) ,,If your thinking about going this route and recording at home ? Buy This !! Buy This
Its great ,I love it ,I record everything and anything. things I would have never spent money on in the studio. Built in Cd burner means instant product in your Car ,listing and re mixing anything you want anytime . Its a Dream come true for this song writing junkie ..
One more time ,If I have not made my self clear ? All The Boss machines are great ,I have the 1200- the 1600 would even be better ,just because I could mic up my entire Kit ? So if I step up I will sell this to a friend and get the 1600 .Don't kill your self trying to figure out Protools ,Record Now ,Enjoy
Buy The BR 1200 Today.
I needed to ramble a bit . Maybe you can tell just how excited I am to own one . Hey gotta go record now.

Boss Br 1200 80gb

its a step up from my old 1200. it has better compressers. I had to get use to it for i had the old one down pretty good. fade in and fade out is not as good as the old one i had. you have to really mess with it to get it right, on this new unit they toned down the highs on vocals so now i don't have to add bass to my mic now to get the sharpness out. so far it works really good. it seems to keep everything in balance alot better. like anything else the more you play with it the better you get at it. boss really has great units for the home studio people who love making music. their digital recorders are the best you can buy for the money. I'd say to anyone who wants to do there own thing when it comes to making music, buy Boss you can't go wrong.

Solid on the Basics

I have been using the BR-1200 for about 3 years now. I purchased it to do song writing demos (not professional album production). I have been very happy with it understanding it's limitations.

Here is what I like about it: easy one step tracking, 16 virtual tracks, easy .wav importing and exporting, decent drum machine for keeping time, easy and convenient features such as time marking, scrubbing, auto-punch, undo etc. It has been 100% accurate and trouble free. The digital converters sound good and are musical. The reverb is beautiful - smooth and silky. The guitar modeler is pretty good as far as modeling goes and the guitar patches are EQ'd for good mixing. These are all good basic features that make this unit a pleasure to work with.

Here is what I don't like. If you are looking at this unit for these features you may be disappointed:
The preamps are mediocre. Need to purchase mic pre to make vocals sound good. All of the built in arrangement tools are only good if you want your music to sound like a $50 "Casio." The drums are cool but too "PCM" and lifeless in a mix. I have had to turn to Sony Acid Loops to get good drum sounds. The vocal tuning degrades the voice too much to use. The mastering compressors are not transparent enough to make a believable mastered sound plus you loose 2 stereo tracks to use the mastering. The Eq doesn't "Shelve." This has been a big drag as you can't do high/pass low/pass without routing your tracks back through the effects processor. Otherwise you take out too many needed frequencies when you are trying to get rid of the bad frequencies. The mic modeling is silly. Why would you want your AKG C3000 to sound like an sm 57? Yes, I want my $400 mic to sound like a $89 mic! Has a good AKG 414 patch but I was expecting other decent studio standards not just AKG.

Conclusion: This unit is easy to use and does the basics very well. Get a good channel strip or mic pre, a decent mic and accurate monitors and you can create some great sounding music. With the 12 track limitation it is great for basic mixes (like songwriting demos).

Our Customers Say...

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
