Excellent choice for stereo applications

Keep in mind that a stereo mic is specialized equipment. Use it for what it was designed for and you will be very happy with this mic. I personally would NOT use this for drum OH. The capsules are fixed and for drum OH, I want the ability to position each mic individually.

OK – let me start off with the bad. For a large condenser, it has that mid-line AudioTechnia rather flat, almost "canned" tonality. Also, the way the capsules are spaced, you need to be a 3 or more feet back from the mic to capture a stereo image. Really, you should expect that on any single point stereo mic.

The Good: It’s small and it’s lightweight – light enough to use on a fishpole for video. Extremely low self noise (especially at this price). The included stereo cable is long (almost too long for film use) and if you need longer, just use a couple XLR cables as extensions.

Excellent (as in truly excellent) stereo field – when listening to the playback through my Grados, more than once I looked over my shoulder to see who was in the room with me – there was no one there, it was someone walking around the room during the recording. Yeah, it sounds that real....I suppose that says it all. I was impressed.

For choirs, you will be amazed that a $600 mic does this good of a job. For film and video ambient (room tone) you will be equally impressed. If you want the convenience of a single point stereo mic for under a grand, the BP4025 is the ticket.

I didn’t give it 5 stars because the only mic that has “blown me away” in the last two years was a custom titanium capsule mounted in a $14,000 (not a typo) Telefunken.

Shock-mount is highly recommended.

Our Customers Say...

I can talk to my Sales Engineer about any piece of equipment, and he always steers me in the right direction. He truly knows what he's talking about, and he never tries to over-sell me on anything. If he worked in the Nashville area, I'd probably owe him about 20 dinners by now!
