From Our Research Team:A Hybrid Semi-hollow BassLooking for a unique bass that is part hollowbody and part solidbody? The Gibson Midtown Bass is the innovative and exciting hybrid you have been looking for. Gibson started with a solid mahogany body, which they chambered and then topped with a solid maple cap. You will love the feel of the Midtown body shape. The mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard gives you the comfortable playability you expect from a Gibson. A pair of TB humbuckers finish off this unique axe. Grab a Gibson Midtown Bass and what this bass has to offer.Gibson Midtown Bass 4-string Electric Bass Guitar at a Glance:
Unique Body Construction and Size The most unique aspect of the Gibson Midtown Bass is the innovative body. The body is made from solid mahogany that is strategically chambered for optimal sound and relieved weight. This unique body design gives you the punch and sustain you want from a bass without the feedback of a full hollowbody. The Gibson Midtown Bass is then capped with a solid maple top with f-holes to give it a definitive semi-hollow look and feel. Bass humbuckers deliver earth-shaking bass tone For big bass tone, the Gibson Midtown Bass comes with a pair of TB bass humbuckers. Gibson designed the bridge pickups with ceramic magnets to give you punch and big output. The neck pickup houses Alnico II magnets for a fat, vintage tone. Your band will love the huge, full sound and tight bottom end from the Gibson Midtown Bass. Top notch hardware that's ready to work You'll find a collection of professional appointments that make the Gibson Midtown Bass a true workhorse. For instance, its Grover tuners and 3-point adjustable tailpiece give you amazing tuning stability. Dual humbucking pickups deliver big bass tone and the PLEK-cut nut ensures perfect intonation. David, Renton, WA Reviewsbased on 1 reviewA well built old school Gibson
by Drew Hastay from Pullman, WA
I am using Sweetwaters rating that 5 stars is Blown Away, 4 stars is Great and 3 stars is Really Good. What kind of tone this has is a matter of opinion. It is old school. A thick attack, a big fun... read more [+]damental and excellent sustain. Not as bright as some of the more modern guitars. I would like a pickup blend knob myself, but this bass is capable of a big variety of sounds. Very high output for a passive bass. The baked maple fretboard has been replaced with a darker Rosewood on the newer versions, which is a plus. I had to adjust the intonation on the G string, but found it quite easy with the 3 point bridge. Some people don't like this bridge, but I don't have a problem with it. I only gave it 3 stars because it is neck heavy and will go horizontal if you let go of the neck. Even though other well known basses will do that, I personally think that is poor design. My instrument, also, came with a small glue drop on the fretboard. I was able to get most of it off after 30 minutes with a magnifiying glass and a needle. In addition, the paint inside the F holes is rough and there is a very thin line of paint missing on parts of the edge around the F holes. You would not notice these things with a casual look, but that certainly is not great work. If not for these objections I might give the bass 3.5 or maybe 4 stars. close [-]
