Great for the price

This does exactly what I want - runs my condenser mics with phantom and allows me to output to either my computer soundcard, my Echo IO soundcard, or even the stereo input on camcorders, etc.

I can toss it in my camera or laptop bag and mount it just about anywhere for location recording, so the portability is definitely a plus over trying to lug a rackmount preamp around for location recording. close [-]

Does What It Is Supposed To

This preamp does just what it is supposed to do, boost the signal level before passing it along, and it does it cleanly and at a fairly reasonable price. Most of the points I am giving are for the hon... read more [+]esty of the product.

What I do not like, and lowered the score from full marks, was no XLR output, small adjuster knobs and no added signal enhancement, other than the level boost. Of these, the biggest negative is the small knobs making level adjustments not as easy as they should be.

Having said that, consider the price of this preamp and the cleanliness of the output. It is indeed, short of great, but it is a good solid piece of hardware and handy to have around for your home studio. close [-]

It isn't pro-level equipment

The main problem with this unit is that the output won't provide pro levels - it won't provide full headroom to an audio interface expecting +4dBu - that includes everything from the M-Audio interface... read more [+]s like the delta 44 & 66 to super-expensive stuff. It *is* nice and quiet and sounds fairly good, also provides nearly +48v for your condenser mics - i guess it could be used as a pre-amp for computer soundcards or to provide extra mic inputs on small mixers where the line level inputs can be cranked up ... but, alas, it's not a viable cheap pro-audio preamp. Also, the input distorts well before the red clip LEDs light close [-]
