I had a session this past weekend with a 4-piece rock combo, and the band had a younger guitarist who had never played through a quality virtual amp. When I told him I'd be running him through Amplit... read more [+]ube (Metal), he acted very hesitantly. His exact words were, "Won't that sound fake? I don't want to sound digital or like I'm playing through a computer!" Well, immediately his opinion changed when he started playing through the presets. The kid was blown away. I really opened up this guys' mind to the possibilities of virtual amp modeling, because we ended up using a couple of settings from Amplitube Metal throughout the whole project. It was neat watching a "newcomer" get blown away at the sound quality of a good virtual amp model. Heck, it makes me want to play more guitar, and I'm not even a guitarist... STILL, just had to point out that the Amplitube products are definitely CPU hogs (thus the 4.5 rating.) I recorded the session in 96k, and I was having problems running Ampeg SVX and Metal in mono - not stereo, and I've got a Mac Pro! There may be some settings I could change, but I had the same problems before I traded my Mac G5. If you want to go the way of virtual guitar amps, then get a powerful computer. But you won't regret the sound quality. close [-]

I'm really pleased with this guitar software. The tones are great, there's more than enough presets to pacify a serious guitarist, and the now-included X-Gear is a nice addition if you have other Amp... read more [+]litube products. September 15, 2008 Music Background: studio owner, local producer, performer, teacher, blah, blah, blah One thing, though, you need to know that this thing is a serious CPU hog. I'm running Pro Tools LE on a Mac G5 with 3.5 gigs of RAM, and running two or three of these at once with other plug-ins (compressors, eq's, gates, etc.) pretty much swamps my system. I'm upgrading to 2 more gigs or RAM soon, so this will help. You may be asking, "Who's gonna use three plug-ins at once?" Well, you'll find yourself wanting to use three at once when you find the right sounds, because they are that good. Of course, there's always automation. There are some really nice "softer" tones on here, along with some great effects-type tones that are nicely done. But believe me, there are plenty of griding, gritty, piercing tones to choose from. I highly recommend this product for a recording guitarist or a project studio owner. A great buy! close [-] Sweetwater Advice
Chris McCownRip roarin' fun! Yes, it's totally METAL, but it also has some very nice clean sounds that can be attained as well. If you would like to skip the clean stuff and go straight to the heavy stuff, this is it! This software is a tone monster, and can do everything from over-the-top insane to classic rock with equal ease. The built-in phrase trainer and metronome just became my preferred way to just jam out, and the interface has a very logical layout, making it simple to use. |
