ReviewsJust OK for the money
by Rickshaw Records from San Diego, CA
Hype:April 1, 2005 Music Background: This thing is compact and easy to figure out. 3 big knobs: Amp Model, Cabinet, and Effect, plus the required volume and tone knobs. It's basic. For $60, the effects seem decent, an... read more [+]d the modeling is fairly accurate. Gripe: My biggest gripe is that the tiny white screenprint is virtually impossible to read against the shiny, reflective chrome knobs. (Why didn't they use black like the rest of the box?) Second, certain amp/cabinet combinations are significantly noisy. Not simple amplification of hum from the bass or cables, but internal noise from the unit. (Why would changing the cabinet cause more noise? But it does.) A noise gate masks this self-noise when you aren't playing, but it's there while you are plucking away, and is especially noticable during quiet passages or staccato riffs. The noise gate is built-in, and not user-adjustable. Overall: Compared to $200+ for a Bass POD or $100+ for a Bass V-Amp, the $60 price is right, but even for home recording, it's pretty noisy. Being plastic, others have called this a "toy" - not for serious bass players or quality recording. I would tend to agree. For my money, it barely beats plugging-in directly to the board and tweaking the EQ myself. close [-] |
