From Our Research Team:

The Kind of Guitar No One Will Forget!

The Al Di Meola Prism was born from close collaboration between Al and Paul Reed Smith. The idea was to put all of Al's favorite appointments onto one guitar for absolutely no-compromise tone while giving the axe a unique "tie-dye" look. The Al Di Meola Prism is definitely a stunner - and likely PRS's most visually memorable guitar to date - but wait until you plug her in! A curly maple custom "9" top with a mahogany back, a PRS tremolo, and a 22-fret, 25"-scale Peruvian mahogany neck with a Mexican rosewood fretboard round out the incredible Al Di Meola Prism.

Al Di Meola Prism at a Glance:
  • Two great minds formed one striking guitar
  • Choice tonewoods and reliable hardware
  • 1957/2008 humbucking pickups for great tone

Two great minds formed one striking guitar
Al Di Meola and Paul Reed Smith got together to talk about this new signature model and two things were decided: first, the guitar would sport all of Al's favorite appointments for killer tone and reliability and second, it'd feature a truly unique look. Al suggested a "tie-dye"-like finish for the axe, and thus the Al Di Meola Prism was born. Paying tribute to a legendary musician - and one of the first artists to hit a magazine cover playing a PRS - the Al Di Meola Prism is unarguably among the most striking guitars PRS has ever crafted.

Choice tonewoods and reliable hardware
Both Al and Paul Reed Smith wanted nothing but the best for the signature line, so they packed in top woods and hardware components to ensure the highest quality and tonal integrity. The top is a maple custom "9 top" with a mahogany back and its 22-fret Mexican rosewood fingerboard offers a 25" scale length and features a smooth-playing Al Di Meola custom carve. Grommet-style locking tuners give the guitar the stability you'd expect, and an Al-D truss rod cover and a PRS tremolo add to this beauty's looks and playability. And, to make it even more the envy, the Al Di Meola Prism features those must-have PRS bird inlays.

1957/2008 humbucking pickups for great tone
While the Al Di Meola Prism certainly looks striking, she's designed to sound just as great. On top of the excellent tonewoods that contribute to the sound, the Prism features PRS 1957/2008 electronics with a 3-way toggle pickup selector and a push/pull tone control.

Al Di Meola Prism Features:
  • Finish - Stained "Prism" Top with Natural Back
  • Figured Flame Curly Maple '9' Top
  • Lightweight Mahogany Back (McCarty thickness)
  • Peruvian Mahogany 22 Fret Neck
  • Cocobolo (Mexican Rosewood) Fretboard
  • 'J' Birds - Abalone
  • Custom Al Di Meola Neck Carve
  • PRS locking (grommet style) Tuning Pegs
  • PRS 1957/2008 Pickups
  • Volume, Push/Pull Tone, 3-Way Toggle
  • PRS Tremolo
  • Nickel Hardware

The Al Di Meola Prism delivers on all fronts - tone, playability, and appearance!

PRS Al Di Meola Prism Delivers The Goods!

Music Background: Executive/Musician/Collector
As a longtime player and collector of PRS Guitars, I know firsthand how amazing ALL of their guitars are. Yet they continually raise the bar and impress the guitar community with their newest models.... read more [+] Well, they did it again with the Al Di Meola Prism.

Before you even plug it in, the guitar itself is a work of art! The colors explode off of the gorgeous wood. Once I actually played it, I was blown away by every aspect of the instrument. The tone, sustain, feel, looks and playability are all off the charts.

I must also point out the 1957/2008 humbucking pickups. I can't name another pickup on the planet I've ever played, that sounds this good.

This is a very special instrument and you should really consider adding it to your collection. It's already become my favorite guitar. close [-]
