From Our Research Team:

Put You and Your Keyboard in the Spotlight!

One look at the APEX AX-90 and you'll know why gigging keyboardists and touring musicians all over the globe choose this very stand. It's because the AX-90 does more than offer rock-solid support for your prized instruments. The sleek AX-90 packs in smart, made-with-you-in-mind features along with the hottest, freshest look you've ever seen on a keyboard stand. But that's just the beginning of the AX-90's story.

So, just what all does the APEX AX-90 offer you? First, check out the Quad Pod base. Designed with an enhanced center of gravity, the Quad Pod base makes the AX-90 tip resistant and even more stable than traditional column-style stands. Beyond that, the legs are made from strong 6000-series aluminum and lock in place for added stability. Long story short, this is a stand you can trust. It gets better, though. The Ultimate Support AX-90 is the only column stand with complete ergonomic adjustment available. That means you can adjust the tier heights from 19"-47" for standing and sitting playing comfort, and you can adjust the depth from 18"-24" to support nearly any keyboard in your rig today or in the future.

Now for the really good stuff. The 2-tier APEX AX-90 looks phenomenal. And that's not just due to the sleek design, but also the gorgeous, automotive-quality paint finish. Available in a range of colors to suit your personality and onstage look, the APEX AX-90 lets you step into the spotlight — where you belong. And to top it all off, behind that gorgeous look is an added level of convenience. The arms store safely right inside the APEX AX-90 column when you're not using them, so you never have to worry about losing parts.

Last not least, the APEX AX-90 includes a heavy-duty Tote Bag. It's a great value, but it's more than that too. The Tote Bag is designed to help you set up your APEX AX-90 in seconds. Just lay the AX-90 down while it's in the bag, unzip the bottom, and snap the Quad Pod legs securely into place. Grab that Tote Bag handle, and use it to raise the AX-90 onto its leg base. Then, lift the bag off and you're ready to perform. It's safe and easy — and saves you setup time.

When you're looking to take your onstage look to the next level, start here — the great-looking APEX AX-90 from Ultimate Support!

Give us shorter arms, also!

I have not (yet) purchased this stand, but I have checked it out carefully in stores. Beautifully made, and seems to be quite rugged and stable. It's a bit heavy, bulky, and obviously rather expensive... read more [+]. Keyboards that are not very deep, such as a Korg M50 or most controllers, really don't look right sitting on those big arms. For the price, I would really like to see another set of arms, shorter than the first set, included with this stand. close [-]

Sweetwater Advice

This is one of those products that I had initially considered a luxury and now find myself needing to use it for every performance. Strictly from a visual perspective, it makes your rig seem more impressive and contemporary. (At my last show, more people asked about this stand than about my keys.) Ergonomically, it's the only stand that puts my keyboard high enough so that I can play standing while keeping my wrists straight. (I'm 6' 2" tall.) I've also come to appreciate its stability regardless of how big or heavy your keyboard is. It's just better to play your synth when it isn't rocking or tipping when you go crazy on it. And its ability to conceal wires inside a groove in the stand is very cool. I guess my best endorsement is that I'm about to buy a second one because I use my two keyboards in an "L" shape. And, now that its price has dropped yet another $100, it's much easier to justify other than just saying how amazing my rig will look with two of these.

Great Stand, with some caveats

by RT from New York, NY

I have been a keyboardist in a wedding band for 15 years, so needless to say Ive been through a lot of keyboard stands - they get a good workout with me using them just about every weekend.
... read more [+] /> Overall, I do like this stand, and I would buy it again if it was lost or stolen. It looks great, it's incredibly solid, and has some neat features. On the down side, the stand is definitely bigger and heavier than any stand I've owned (and as I mentioned, I've owned a LOT of them!). Also, reliability in a couple of areas has not been great, which I discuss below:

The setup is relatively easy, the only difficulty being, since the stand is heavy and bulky, some strength is required - you need to pull the legs out while it's upside down, then turn it rightside up. Between the turnover and the removal of the case, there's just no way to set it up gracefully! The included case really helps everything a LOT though.

Attaching the arms is easy, and the arm storage is pretty smooth, definitely cleaner than the triangular arms on my previous ultimate stand (where i was always afraid of detaching the foam attached to the arm, which did in fact happen).

The good news is, once it's all set up, this thing is a beast, and you can have complete confidence in the stability. I have a Kurzweil PC3 (76 keys) and a Fantom G7 (76 keys), both pretty heavy keyboards, and while you're playing you know they are not going anywhere -- I cant say the same for every stand Ive owned.

Features I like:
First off, you can extend the length of the arms easily, and since i like to have the lower keyboard (the PC3) stick out enough for me to get to the buttons easily, this is great.
I also like the fact that you can pitch the arms up above 90 degrees, so you can tilt the keyboards ever so slightly towards the audience. Probably not the best playing position (or is it?), but great for showmanship :)
Also, it looks great. As keyboard players we dont get to do a lot that stands out visually, but when I pulled this out at a gig that I play every few weeks, everyone was like "wow, new keyboard stand, I like it!"

On the down side, aside from the weight, Ive had some reliability issues. First off, the included case, while it helps SOO much in transport and setup, it is hardly sturdy. The shoulder strap ripped off *immediately*. Literally, I was using it for the first time, carrying it about 200 feet... and one end of it just went Rrrriiipppp! If the stand is too heavy for that strap, simply dont attach it to the case in the first place!

There is also a handle on the side - that one has been less fragile, but I am noticing it too is starting to come rip off of the case. I've used it for about 5 months now, and considering Im not carrying it all THAT far (from the car to the stage and back, average of once a weekend), thats kind of shoddy for a stand this substantial.

I also found that the buttons that hold the legs in when they are stowed in the stand broke pretty much immediately. Within about three uses, three of them stopped working, but one is still holding on. Because the case holds the legs in as well, it doesnt impact storage or tear-down, but a little disappointing.

Again, I like the stand for its stability and looks, but there are some things that Ultimate will hopefully improve in future versions. close [-]

An Impressive Improvement Over the Apex 48, BUT...

by Jake from Washington, DC

Very sturdy, very stable, looks AWESOME (I constantly get complimented on how bada$$ it looks), packs up neatly into a compact package for easy hauling, stacks the two keyboards beautifully over each ... read more [+]other in a stacked but offset configuration. Comes with a nice gig bag and feels incredibly stable when setup.

BUT...

I'm noticing some issues with the build quality. The legs lock into place when tucked into the base of the stand with metal "leg locks." Within 1 week of purchasing it, one of my leg locks broke. Guitar Center swapped it out with no questions asked...and then the new one broke on its first gig. Within another week, a SECOND leg lock broke. I hardly baby my stand, however, I do NOT abuse it. I find this to be "shoddy" craftsmanship/design on Ultimate's part. Furthermore, the thing weighs as much as my 76-key keyboards in SKB hardshell plastic roadcases! I also find that it is impossible to position the bottom keyboard in a position that allows you comfortable, ergonomic playing when you angle the top-tier to a comfortable playing height...and I'm a little guy at 5'6". I gig with 2 76-key boards, so the stand holds them stable with little-to-no rocking. Throw an 88-key board on the bottom (like a Roland Fantom G8 or Motif XF8) and it becomes a whole different story. The stand shakes from side-to-side, and the arms feel like they're going to fail. I am also infuriated at the fact that Ultimate STILL has not released the microphone boom adaptor attachment and has now pushed it back until "maybe January."

A great design hampered by some glaring issues. If the stand were 6 inches taller and the rear legs perhaps a comparable length as the front ones, it would be nearly ideal. They really need to fix the leg lock issues, as that's flat-out unacceptable for a $300 stand.

I bought this as a replacement to my beloved discontinued (and unrepairable) V-stand. As nice of a stand as this is, I would prefer my V-stand. It weighed less, took up less space when folded up, and was just as stable as this. The lack of the mic boom adaptor is infuriating! close [-]

Nice But...

by Brian Bremer from New Jersey

I've had the stand for about six months now. I like it primarily for it's sturdiness. I think it looks good on stage although sometimes it looks like a 747 is about to launch. I thought long and har... read more [+]d about buying it because of the weight. But I bit the bullet and found that the carry bag tends to distribute the weight nicely so it's not overly heavy. So if you decide to buy it, get the bag...you won't regret it from a weight perspective.

The biggest BUT part comes from the carry case. It's SO tight to get on or off the stand. Something sharp snagged the inside of the case and now it's ripped so I'm trying to find the time to send it back so it won't interfere with gigging. I, too, find the front legs to be a bit bothersome with the pedals but I knew that going into the deal so I just deal with it. I've been trying to think of something that could fit over the right leg in a way that allowed the pedals to be accessible.

Overall it's worth the $$. I use a single Korg Triton 88 and bang on it pretty hard sometimes and it's steady as a rock. close [-]

My Sales Engineer is the best. If I need it tomorrow, I have it tomorrow. He makes sure everything is in order and that I'm set up right. I've spent a lot of money at other places, too, but I don't remember them calling me to make sure everything's okay.
