Worked Where Others Wouldn't
by Carey Weathers from Fort Worth, TX USA, September 2008
Music Background: Live Sound, Hobbyist
I purchased this microphone for our church. We have a difficult room and have tried multiple microphones (Sennheiser, Countryman, etc.) for our preachers. All have had limitations due to the fact that our preachers like to stand right in the middle of the speaker pattern. In addition, we have one new preacher that, for some reason, has difficulty being picked up by lavaliere microphones. Not only did the AT892 work, it worked so well, that I actually had to turn it down (a first in this venue). And this was with our preacher that is hardest to mic (see above, and he speaks softly). Also, the tonality was excellent. I can't say enough about this mic.
only two bad sides
by kirkanese from canon city, April 2008

this mic can ause feedback but thats because you should use this only for speaking and stuff, not music. i thought ui'd say that this mic rocks. the only bad thing?
the penny in the picture is not included :D
i used to use a countryman mic but that caused the worst feedback ever. i can't even get it up as high as i'd like but that is the pact that it is ominidirectional.
Great for worship leaders (even if you wear glasses)
by Phil Christensen from Cedar Rapids IA, January 2007
Music Background: Worship Leader
Having used head-worn mics since they were invented, I really appreciate the AT892. I've tried to get away from the "aerobics instructor" look, and spent much to get the Countryman. It would slip off my ear. Very annoying and distracting, particularly if your hands are needed for playing piano or guitar. Thanks Audio Technica, and thanks Paul at Sweetwater for recommending the AT892. It clamps around the ear comfortably, then reaches around from underneath. Clear, full range sound and trouble-free. Love it.
Outstanding for presentations
by Pete Bansen from Squaw Valley, California, October 2006
Music Background: Live Sound Engineer
The AT-892 is a terrific replacement for a 'clip-on' lavaliere for presentations. I've frequently been plagued by the variation in volume as a presenter turns toward the screen and away from their lavaliere mic. The 892 is simple for them to use, provides consistent volume and clarity and makes them sound great.
I've been using an Audio-Technica ATW-2120 (hand mic) and an ATW-2110 (body pack lavaliere) for a couple of years and they've been flawless. Replacing the lavaliere mic with the AT-892 resulted in a dramatic improvement in the quality and consistency of our sound. I strongly recommend the use of a headworn mic over a lav and this mic is as unobtrusive and easy to use as anything you're going to find.
