Customer Reviewsfrom Missouri April 29, 2011Music Background: Songwriting and production Smooth, rich, classic soundI purchased this mic on a quest to improve vocal recordings. I have never been pleased with the sound of my own voice. It always sounded a bit harsh and nasal to me, with undue emphasis on the high-mids. I tried many different mics including the TLM103, Rode NTK, Blue Dragonfly and various Studio Project offerings, but something was always missing. Finally, after reading many reviews about the warmth and natural character of ribbon mics, I decided to give the AT4080 a whirl. I was pleased!! My voice sounded rich, full, warm and yet retained its true personality. It never sounded "processed" or nasal. It shines with any mic-pre I own, especially the Focusrite Liquid channel. Great find!from Phoenix, AZ May 4, 2013Music Background: Studio Owner, Recording Engineer, Songwriter, Musician Warm Smooth ToneI just finished recording some acoustic guitar tracks, and a vocal track using this mic. The tune is jazzy version of "The Christmas Song" with a mellow, laid back feel. For the acoustic I ran this through a Grace Design 501, and man what a beautiful, warm sound. Nice round lows, even mid-range, and not too crisp on the highs. For the vocal track I paired this with a Great River 500 series pre, and the track came to life. The tone of the baritone male vocal was instantly the perfect match for the jazzy acoustic. Super smooth, like a cup of mocha. I have no other ribbon mics in my locker, so I have to give it only four stars without the current possibility of a comparison. To be honest though, I can't imagine how it could possibly sound any better.
