Great smooth vintage sound....

I read reviews calling this mic dark and boring, but I couldn't disagree more. I've had it for over 2 years and love it on everything I put it in front of it. It has a silky, smooth and airy high-end combined with a lush, full and articulate midrange rounded by a nice compressed full sounding bottom end. The proximity effect can be used to add just the right amount of balance in vocals. It sounds great on female vocals as well. Smoothing the high end and adding a nice bottom to make the vocal sit eloquently in the mix. It responds well to solid state and tube pre-amps and is very easy to eq. I also had to use AT customer service after a power supply issue and could not have asked for better care. AT next-dayed it there and back and called to make sure it was working like I wanted it to. Highly recommended and a bargain.

OMG!

A friend of mine bought one of these as his first condensor and never bought another one. Sounds wonderful on everything he does and always blend the vocals (screaming, singing, everything) right into the mix where they belong.

I personally use an AT2020 and recomend it for ANYONE starting out on a budget.

Sounds like a record!

I ran this through a decent solid state preamp - John Hardy M1 - and soundcard - RME 9632 and got a world class signal chain going. This mic really does perform as well as Neumanns and other boutique mics at a fraction of the price. Lexus compared to Mercedes really. No spitty top end or hollow lows. Even if you can afford the European stuff you should really check this first.

Love it

Recorded my whole first album on this mic. Have to say next to high end Neumanns this is my favorite mic I have ever heard. Incredibly honest and warm. Very versatile, captures everything equally but with with each individual personality. Highly recommended. Works fantastic with Focusrite pre-amps.

Great Mic

This mic has a wonderful frequency response and all the right boosts in all the right places. I've found that it sounds even better with the Avalon M5 tube pre when tracking vocals. So much clarity and definition throughout the frequency spectrum. With mics like this EQ will be a thing of the past.

Smooth

Used this mic for vocals with extreme dynamics, handled it smoothly. Sounds warm and still clear enough for those minor details. Its a very nice mic, satisfied.
