Sweetwater Advice

Phil Schwan
I have enjoyed the experience of using IK Multimedia's ARC (Advanced Room Correction) software. My home studio has been plagued with bad acoustics for too long now and I finally found a solution for it. What ARC does best is intelligently analyze the acoustics of your room and fix your mix accordingly, so you can get a flat response curve from your monitors. Since I have been using ARC my mixes have improved tenfold, and they translate a lot better as I listen to them on other speakers. I would recommend ARC for any home studio user who doesn’t want to shell out all of their money and time for acoustic treatment.

Every studio still needs great monitors along with proper acoustical treatment. But I'm amazed at what the ARC System can do to further compensate for your room's acoustics so that you can hear your mix the way it really sounds! A great solution for all studios!

The best purchase I could have made

After years of having room issues during mixing, I bought ARC. Once set up, you WILL notice more imaging and tighter response (especially low end) in your mixes. I have been fortunate to mix in a lot of great rooms over a long career but now I feel best when mixing at home. Right now, I'm sounding like a champ for my clients. I cannot stress this enough. BUY THIS PLUGIN. It will change your entire path as a mixer. Also, since I work out of the country and in various stateside locales I don't have to fear monitor choices anymore. I just take the measurement mic, run the setup, and BOOM!!! I can trust what I'm hearing and do final tweaks at home if needed. GET IT!!!!

Worth It's Weight In Gold...Maybe Even Platinum

I will say first and foremost that there is no replacement for a properly acoustical treated room. But for those of us who can't quite get it right, this is the next best thing as far a convenience goes. My mixes went from OK to impressive. Not because my skill level changed but because I could actually hear what was really going on in my mixes.
This is not another gimmick or useless plug-in. This has a real purpose in my studio and I recommend that you get it too. If you don't I will continue to have people say my mixes sound better than yours..LOL!

Worth every penny...

OK, so I get the whole "make the room disappear" technique with room correction EQ and processing from my days in high-end home theaters. I bought ARC with a pair of JBL LSR2328 monitors. While they aren't as accurate as Focals or Genelecs out of the box, I was confident that ARC can make them sound just as accurate. After I got everything hooked up and went through the minimum 12-point analysis, I was amazed at the difference. Alone the LSRs were very boomy in the upper bass and the highs were very sharp (not crisp, almost piercing). I wish I could post a picture of the measurement and correction response, it would make anyone a believer. Many props to my longtime engineer and friend Mike Baldonado (ext. 1315) for taking such good care of me.

Incredible! A Must Have

Tuning your room as close to flat as possible is the foundation of having your songs sound good when you play them outside of the control room. Too many times I have heard untuned rooms effect the mix and make a good song sound amateurish. The ARC System is a very easy and effect way to flatten your room and you don't have to be an engineer to do it. It is automatic. It comes with a pencil reference mic, it could not be easier...

You don't have this yet ?????

This is with out a doubt the software the every project studio must have, we have to face it our spare bedroom wasn't made to be a control room (until ARC came thru). this is one of those thing you will use day in day out and get great results.

At first i was sceptic about it and the fact that i couldn't try it before i bought it was a bit scary, finally i decided to give a try and place the order received it few days later ran the installers and took 20 Measurement of my room my girl happen to be with me at the time i was doing this and looked at me like if i was crazy, but as soon as i put Arc in pro tools she ask me what did i do because she could now hear the music way better, (she was laying down in the couch about 7-8 feet behind my chair).

do your self a big favor instead of buy a great set of plugins to mix, get arc this will give you an accurate listing environment to start with therefore allowing you to really hear what's going on in your mix and this will make you a better engineer.

The Best Investment you will make!

I did research for about a month before buying this unit, everybody seemed to be happy about it so i decided to try it, and WOWWWWW let me tell you what a difference! after you mix and export your track (cubase 4) mixing with the ARC on if you import the track on your ipod and listen to it you will hear the clarity on your mix, i used to mix and then export the track again and again and again and importing it on my ipod and playing it back on my dvd player and on the stereo in the living room and the car all of this just to make sure the mix is good, with ARC i can now mix and export and then listen to it anywhere and the sound is incredible, i would recommend you to mark the floor when you do the measurements place masking tape around, measure the distance between your monitor and place tape between them then measure different spots so it you get a great test, also give it a good mesurement, do 20+

Incredible

Seriously, if you are a bedroom producer like I am, this thing is the best $500 investment ever!

Once I was done installing it and taking measurements, it was like taking a blanket off my monitors. I could not believe it. The impact is so profound that now I end up dragging my favorite mixes into my DAW, apply the arc plugin, and then listen and analyse them critically. No more listening to mixes on WMP.

My only regret is not being able to load the ARC plugin into Patchmix (EMU 1616M) and improve my monitoring outside my DAW as Patchmix does not support VST.

IK Multimedia if you are listening, please make a DSP plugin to implement with Patchmix, or some other way to use this thing outside a DAW!!!

An amazing runner-up

I was skeptical but intrigued when the ARC was first announced (along with everyone else). After hearing a demo, though, I knew it was just what I needed. If available (and properly set up), I would first recommend good room treatment any day, but this is a close runner-up, and for someone like me that rents space it's by far the best solution. It has effectively fixed phasing problems and bass hype due to the acoustics of my room, plus, if I ever have to move, it easily goes with me!

final room treatment

If your room is treated and you setup correctly, ARC will get you very close to flat. I hear that ARC 2 will be even better at correcting the bass end with is always the toughest.

Does what it says...

Let me start by saying this is a great product and it does what it sets out to do really well and is fairly easy to setup.
I have had this thing for a while now and have made some alterations to my room along the way. I found the ARC system to be the most helpful in extreme situations. I used to have peaks and nulls all over the place and could never get the low end to sit properly in my mixes. The ARC system definitely helped me hear the low end better and improved my mixes, but at a cost. It takes all the character out of my monitors (Adam A7x). That's my biggest problem with this product. It tries to get everything down to a flat response and a dead flat response is not really exciting. Some studio monitors are also not supposed to sound flat. NS10's for instance, one of the world's most popular studio monitors are nowhere near to be flat. But they have their own character.
Right now I've made some alterations to my room. I made several acoustic panels and bass traps and although my room is no where perfect I've simply gotten used to it. With the ARC system on, everything sound thin...who knows, maybe I'll find my self using the ARC again sometime later. But right now I've simply got adjusted to my room and my monitors and my mixes sound better than ever.
