being a fan of the old analog synths, I was absolutely blown away when I heard the presets of the Moog Modular, perhaps my favorite synth of all time. I'm also running the Arturia Collection V, and t... read more [+]ogether, it absolutely knocks my socks off. Can hardly wait to finish building the last of the synths to go in a 14 synth cabinet, get all the software playing together and have it play a symphony close [-]

First off I bought this to use for live use, just so you undestand my perspective. I run this through an Asus Core I5 w/ 4GB laptop. Registration is a pain. It took less time to figure out how to use ... read more [+]the product than to figure out how to get through the registration process. Now the positives. I am using this in standalone mode, not a VST and so far it's bulletproof. The amount of patches will keep you busy for hours just going through checking them out. Interface is extremely intuitive. I was able to figure out a lot of the functionality without getting in the manual. I really appreciate the well thought out layout of the keyboard. There is a dedicated chorus and reverb knob that works the same for every patch. The sounds are fat and are the best digital renditions of analog that I've come across. For each patch there are 4 parameter knobs that Arturia has decided are the best tweakable parameters for that patch. A good solution for balancing flexibility and simplicity. For live use there are 10 presets, almost imperative for live use. The keyboard is built like a tank, steel with real wood endcaps. Heavier than it looks. Action is about what you'd expect for a midi controller in the $200 range. Keys are semi-weighted and play OK. The only issue I had in setting up was a latency problem (time it takes from the key press until sound is produced). It was unacceptable on my intial install using the sound driver in my laptop. After a little research I came across the ASIO driver available for free online. Installed the ASIO driver, one minute of tweaking and problem solved. I play in a part time classic rock cover band and wanted to get lots of vintage sounds without hours of learning and tweaking. The Analog Experience is perfect for this. I haven't run as a VST, so I can't comment on that aspect. I highly recommend getting a Steinberg Key to put your license on. Necessary if you want to use on another computer someday or if you want to be able to sell it. This is a great first software synth for those of us who are not midi geeks. If you want to spend more time playing then tweaking, you won't be disappointed. close [-]
