Warm and LARGE sounding amp! I have played my '67 Gretsch Country Gentleman through a '63 Vox AC15 and while I did not have the oppurtunity to directly A/B this amp with a '63, I do not detect any disparaging differences between the two. Beautiful, clean "Beatle" tones (with either the EF86 channel OR the '63 Top Boost channel), spot on "Brian May" tone (if you're using a proper "Red Special" repro w/TB-83 on the EF86 channel on full), smooth, rich Stratocaster tones, thick Les Paul distortion.
Some people might turn their noses up at "made in China", but these amps REALLY DO NOT have too much lead paint in them. Vox is not hyping how these amps sound. Beautiful! "Frippertronics"? Of course! You can sustain a note indefinitely, without it turning into a screechy mess!
