Genelec Delivers Big Sound From A Nearfield!

Boasting performance comparable to much larger systems, but in a compact package, the bi-amplified Genelec 8040A is ideal for use in many situations where a wide frequency response is needed but space is limited. Use the 8040A for nearfield monitoring, in project/home studios, workstations, broadcast and TV control rooms and mobile production vehicles.

Genelec 8040A Bi-Amplified Monitor at a Glance:
  • Special MDE enclosure minimizes diffraction for focused near-field use
  • Advanced waveguide and bass reflex port design for optimum sound distribution
  • High audio output with low distortion
  • Unique Iso-Pod mounting system

Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™ for superb imaging
The 8040A features Genelec's MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) enclosure with rounded edges and a gently curved front and sides. This allows the 8040A to achieve a very smooth frequency response and superb imaging qualities with minimized cabinet edge diffraction.

Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide™ enhances directivity
Like all Genelec 8000 Series monitors, the 8040A also features the advanced Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW). The revolutionary DCW has been further enhanced to provide extremely accurate control of the 8040A's directivity. Genelec designed this specially-shaped and very smooth surface and integrated it with the enclosure. Its area has been maximized to achieve an astoundingly flat on and off-axis frequency response. As a result, the 8040A has an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on and off axis. This also gives the 8040A superb imaging qualities and less listening fatigue.

High performance reflex port design
To increase the 8040A woofer's low frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec designed an ingenious flow optimized reflex port. The long, curved tube maximizes airflow so the 8040A can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimizing port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. An optimized die-cast aluminium structure with extremely durable semi-matt finish and acoustically optimized metal grilles add to the 8040A's acoustic excellence.

High audio output with low distortion
Genelec's low distortion drivers - 6.5" bass speakers and 3/4" metal dome tweeters - are driven by the 8040A's dedicated 90-watt bass and treble amplifiers after sophisticated filtering. Magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry and versatile room response controls are standard.

Versatile mounting options plus special Iso-Pod™ stand
The versatile mounting features on the 8040A include integrated rear support points for wall and floor stands plus a further M10 thread for mounting on the cabinet base. In addition, every Genelec 8040A monitor comes with an Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler) as standard. The Iso-Pod is a clever mounting stand, which allows the 8040A to perform in either the vertical or horizontal position. The IsoPod also enables the acoustic axis of the monitor to be aimed at the listener, while acoustically and mechanically decoupling the monitor from the surface it is resting on.

Genelec 8040A Bi-Amplified Monitor Features:

This monitor is a true reference. mix down everything on it, and export. no need for A/B comparisons.

However it is very very clear and true which means u have to adapt urself with it q... read more [+]uite a while.

And one other thing is that u MUST to do is u must sit exactly in the middle, once u move a bit to the left or right or even backwards the sound changes a little, but hey u dont have to move, just sit and do ur work.

The bass amount is very very good, i dont use a subwoofer. of course this is a nearfield monitor, the amount of level is limited, its a 6.5" monitor, even that its powerfull enough. close [-]

Genelec does it right, yet again.

These monitors are really the go-to monitors for smaller to medium sized rooms while the 8050's work very well for larger control rooms.

Genelec has always been the speaker that sounds... read more [+] like home to me. While other companies manufacture great monitors in their own right, my personal experience (which really is what choosing your monitors comes down to) has been that while other monitors are favored for specific reasons by other engineers, my mixes through Genelecs always translated to other speakers and systems better than using Meyer HD-1, KRK E8, or Yamaha NS10 monitors.

Like everyone else who loves Genelecs, I was horrified that they had discontinued the 1031's and were replacing them with a monitor that looked NOTHING like them, being made from a wholly different material no less. "How on earth were these even going to be similar enough to wear the Genelec name?", I thought.

Much to everyones suprise and joy, Genelec not only succeeded, but in many ways I feel that the new metal enclosures and other improvements create an even more balanced monitor.

Since I am a big fan of the smaller monitor, the 8040A represents just what may be the perfect monitor for me. The bottom end extends far enough to really know what is going on with the bottom end without reproducing enough to interfere with your room. The 8040A's also have that perfectly tailored mid to low range that leave the other monitors in this price range sounding shrill and a whole lot more fatiguing. With the Genelecs I can mix for long stretches at reasonable volumes (borderline loud is reasonable for me) without tiring out in just an hour or two. close [-]

Our Customers Say...

I can talk to my Sales Engineer about any piece of equipment, and he always steers me in the right direction. He truly knows what he's talking about, and he never tries to over-sell me on anything. If he worked in the Nashville area, I'd probably owe him about 20 dinners by now!
