From Our Research Team:

Genelec Quality, Compact Size!

The very compact 8030A is a powerful bi-amplified nearfield monitor system ideal for project and home studios, workstations, installations, and surround sound monitoring.

Genelec 8030A Bi-Amplified Monitor at a Glance:
  • Special MDE enclosure minimizes diffraction for focused near-field use
  • Advanced waveguide and bass reflex port design for optimum sound distribution
  • High audio output with low distortion
  • Unique Iso-Pod mounting system

Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™ for superb imaging
The 8030A features Genelec's MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) enclosure with rounded edges and a gently curved front and sides. This allows the 8030A to achieve a very smooth frequency response and superb imaging qualities with minimized cabinet edge diffraction.

Genelec's Directivity Control Waveguide™ enhances directivity
Like all Genelec 8000 Series monitors, the 8030A also features the advanced Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW). The revolutionary DCW has been further enhanced to provide extremely accurate control of the 8030A's directivity. Genelec designed this specially-shaped and very smooth surface and integrated it with the enclosure. Its area has been maximized to achieve an astoundingly flat on and off-axis frequency response. The 8030A has a wide and consistent listening window, with minimal harmful early room reflections and other colorations associated with conventional designs.

High performance reflex port design
To increase the 8030A woofer's low frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec designed an ingenious flow optimized reflex port. The long, curved tube maximizes airflow so the 8030A can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimizing port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. An optimized die-cast aluminium structure with extremely durable semi-matt finish and acoustically optimized metal grilles add to the 8030A's acoustic excellence.

High audio output with low distortion
Genelec's low distortion drivers - 5" bass speakers and 3/4" metal dome tweeters - are driven by the 8030A's dedicated 40-watt bass and treble amplifiers after sophisticated filtering. Magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry and versatile room response controls are standard.

Versatile mounting options plus special Iso-Pod™ stand
The versatile mounting features on the 8030A include integrated rear support points for wall and floor stands plus a further 3/8" thread for mounting on the cabinet base. In addition, every Genelec 8030A monitor comes with an Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler) as standard. The Iso-Pod™ is a clever mounting stand, which allows the 8030A to perform in either the vertical or horizontal position. The IsoPod also enables the acoustic axis of the monitor to be aimed at the listener, while acoustically and mechanically decoupling the monitor from the surface it is resting on.

Genelec 8030A Bi-Amplified Monitor Features:
  • Compact, versatile nearfield monitor for project studios, workstations and surround components
  • Special low distortion 5" woofer and 3/4" metal dome tweeter
  • Separate 40-watt bass and treble amplifiers
  • 108 dB SPL @ 1m (short term RMS; peak per pair with music material)
  • Free field frequency response 58 Hz - 20 kHz (± 2 dB)

After repeatingly listening, and reading up on these impressive set of monitors, I finally got up the gumption and picked up a set. They are by far the best pair of monitors I've ever owned ( and be... read more [+]lieve me, I've owned everything from the rooty to the tooty when it comes to monitors)!

I'm not saying that these are the end all to be all because there are plenty of great sounding monitors out there, but for me and the style of music I create (Jazz, Funk, R&B, these things are incredible! I can now record and mix and not be so concerned of how the mix translates to other systems like cars stereos and computer systems (which are real world listening devices..not studio monitors!) and know that i'm gonaa hear everything that was recorded in the studio the way it was intended to be heard. Oh yeah....and the mastering engineers love the way the final mixes sound too!

If you're serious about your mixes my suggestion is to save up and snatch up a pair of any oh the series of Genelec monitors and see for yourself! close [-]

Just picked up a pair. So clear.

I have never heard such a clear monitor before. You can really grasp the sterofield with these monitors.

If you are looking to make ... read more [+]a great mix, buy these.

If you are producing music, and are looking for loud monitors,(Like electronic music or hip hop), don't buy these monitors.

They are made for mixing.

That's my 2 cents

Excellent and perfect if you do any 5.1 work.

They don't get a 5 because there are better monitors out there in the $2,000 range (ADAM for example). But for $600 these are excellent. Very neutral, but not dead like the Mackie units (which sound... read more [+] horrible IMHO), clear and responsive and nothing is missed.

If you're looking for low end frequency, you'll need to find a sub or go the Genelec larger units. They rate as low as 56hz but I opt'd for the 85Hz roll off as I have a sub. close [-]
