From Our Research Team:

Discover the Difference a Taylor Guitar Can Make

In the Taylor 700 Series, backs and sides of solid Indian rosewood find their perfect complement in rosewood binding, 3-ring Ivoroid rosette, small pearl dots, and gold Taylor tuners. Rosewood's deep, rich tone meets its ideal counterpart in the Western red cedar top, also available in a magnificent Tobacco Sunburst finish. Simple. Elegant. Classic.

Taylor Guitar 714ce
Combining the full-bodied sound of Indian rosewood with the responsiveness of a Western Red cedar top creates this fingerstyle workhorse. Equipped with the Taylor Expression System™ and cutaway, this Grand Auditorium guitar shines in any venue.

Taylor Guitar 714ce Wood
A Western Red cedar top coupled with a rosewood body provides the ultimate in responsiveness without sacrificing tone.

Taylor Guitar 714ce Body Style: Grand Auditorium
Taylor's Grand Auditorium combines the width and depth of a Dreadnought with a narrower waist. Its sleek design yields a strong treble zing across the tonal spectrum and sharpens the definition of individual notes. The Grand Auditorium is a strong fingerpicking guitar that also adapts well to medium strumming.

Taylor Expression System
Designed to faithfully reproduce your guitar's native tone, the Expression System utilizes patented Dynamic Sensors to capture top and string vibration like never before. Created in partnership with renowned audio pioneer, Mr. Rupert Neve, the Taylor ES is seamlessly integrated into the design of the guitar from the ground up. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally clean amplified sound.

Taylor Guitar 714ce Finish: Gloss
The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultra violet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes. Available finish options in this series are natural back, sides, and top, and natural back and sides with a tobacco or honey sunburst top.

Taylor 714ce

Great Guitar.I was lucky to get one with a cedar top as currently they are using spruce on the 700 series. The guitar is by no means my loudest but it does have a very even tone across board. The highs ... read more [+]come out smooth while the lows ring very deep without nasty overtones. The expression system seems to work well flat and really brings the cedar sound forward. But the thing I enjoy the most is playabillity.Neck width is perfect and the strings just lay on the fingerboard with no buzz or rattle. If you're looking a great playing smooth sounding guitar this could be the one for you. close [-]

Get The Western Cedar Model While You Still Can

by Marty Saperstein from Huntington, NY

There's an old saying about not fixing something if it's not broke. Unfortunately that is what it appears Taylor is doing for 2012 with their 700 series. What distingushed the 700 series from the slig... read more [+]htly more expensive 800 series was the former had a western cedar top while the latter had a sitka spruce top. Now the new 700's, including the 714CE, has a Englemann spruce top in lieu of the cedar top, making similiar in tone woods to the 814CE. But I had preferred the crisp melow sound of the 714 western cedar model to the overly bright 814 model. The 714CE in cedar is simply a phenomenal guitar, which will hypnotize you whether natural or plugged into an acoustic amp, such as the Fishman Loudbox Artist. There's nothing else like it around. Warning! Once you pick it up and start playing, you can't put it down. It will haunt you. close [-]

My new standard

Great, classy guitar

I have owned the cedar topped, non-cutaway version of this guitar for about 4 years now, and it still sounds great. There is good separation between notes, and can ring out when pick strummed, or mellow out when fingered. A versatile, not to mention beautiful but not gaudy guitar. I have heard some guitars with a little more sound depth in this class of guitar though, but I still recommend this guitar if you are looking for something that can do everything pretty well. close [-]

Sweetwater Advice

Ryan Murphy
I can't stop saying how good the Taylor 714ce sounds. In the studio it gives nice bright highs, a smooth mid range, and big round low end to create a perfectly balanced sounding acoustic guitar that really cuts through the mix. On stage, this guitar produces a phenomenal "live" sound that stops most people in their tracks. I've used my Taylor on stage for hundreds of shows and it's always given me a true acoustic tone.
