High-tech Deep Bass Extension

Genelec's 7360A SAM Active Subwoofer is a powerful and precise bass-monitoring tool for up to 7.1 surround systems. With its 19Hz low-frequency extension, high-sound-pressure output capability, and versatile bass management system, the 7360A delivers accurate low-frequency monitoring for all analog and digital applications, such as recording studios, digital workstations, and TV and radio broadcasting facilities. The 7360A incorporates several proprietary technologies including Genelec's LSE (Laminar Spiral Enclosure), AutoCal, and the GLM control network. The 10" subwoofer is powered by an onboard 300-watt Class D amplifier and employs active crossovers, Intelligent Signal Sensing, and protection circuitry. For powerful, clean deep bass extension with Genelec SAM full-range speakers, Sweetwater highly recommends the 7360A.

  • The LSE bass reflex cabinet
  • AutoCal and bass management
The LSE bass reflex cabinet

Genelec's Laminar Spiral Enclosure is made of a sheet metal rolled into a spiral shape and clamped between thick MDF side panels. This new construction technique provides excellent laminar flow characteristics with minimal turbulence noise and enables optimal packing of a very long reflex tube into a small space. The amplifier unit integrated into the cabinet contains active crossover filters and driver overload protection circuits. The inbuilt bass management unit has six signal input and output channels, summed signal output connectors, and LFE input equipped with a selectable 85/120Hz lowpass filter and a 0/+10dB LFE sensitivity switch.

AutoCal and bass management

Genelec cutting-edge AutoCal technology automatically aligns every sub for volume, crossover phase, timing, and equalization of room response aberrations. Delivering extended LF performance, accurate tonal reproduction and robust dynamic capabilities, the 7360A incorporates Genelec's distributed bass management architecture to handle multichannel low-frequency content.

Genelec 7360A SAM Studio Subwoofer Features:
  • Genelec Smart Active Monitor technology
  • LSE (Laminar Spiral Enclosure) optimized bass reflex cabinet
  • Includes bass management that handles multichannel LF content
  • Protection circuitry: drive unit protection for safe operation
  • Onboard 300-watt Class D amplification, active crossovers
  • AutoCal, for perfect automatic alignment
  • Energy-saving Intelligent Signal Sensing
  • Analog XLR inputs; stereo AES/EBU XLR I/O

Well worth the money. Amazing clarity and depth for your low end monitoring.

After much research into the appropriate sub size, single or dual subs, and even if I would need them with my Genelec 8631A's, I took the plunge and purchased a pair. My control room is 23x13x8 so I opted for the dual sub configuration. I have the room well treated acoustically, but adding the subs necessitated redoing my GLM calibration and I have since added additional bass traps and some broadband absorption to even out the overall frequency response. The room is now between 97% - 100% of what GLM considers acoustically significant. Being able to tweak the sub and room treatment options, then see and hear them reflected through the GLM software, is a major game changer in tuning the room/monitor interactions. Having that extra octave of bass range has made an incredible difference in the quality and decisiveness of my mixing decisions. For the price and especially if you have existing SAM compatible monitors, it is an unbeatable combination. The range of setup options available if you are using them with non-Genelec monitors leaves no doubt in my mind that you will be able to get a well defined and accurate sound from these subs. It's just so elegant, seamless, and quickly done if you can use Genelec's calibration software. I am a very happy camper!

Single Most Important Investment in my Studio

Of all the $ I've invested in my studio, my Genelec monitoring system is hands down the single best investment I've ever made. Finally being able to hear things the way they will sound on disk and other systems has given me far more confidence in my mixes and yielded much more efficient workflows. Most importantly, I enjoy recording myself far more now than ever before. I agree with the others, you definitely want to get the SAM acoustic analysis and fingerprinting kit, and don't forget to get the external volume control. Yes it's an expensive volume control, but well worth it. Thank you Genelec, and Thank you to Chris Nunley and Sweetwater who guided me through the purchase process. I had a chance to A/B/C/D the Genelec's before I bought them (against barefoot and focal) and the Sweetwater guidance to go Genelec (for my needs) was spot on. Finally, it's great knowing that I got the lowest possible price without having to micromanage the sourcing. Thank you!!

Is it worth it?

Of all the swords men have made, there is a Hatori Hanzo, and then there's everything else.

Of all the monitor systems I have listened to, there is Genelec, and then there's everything else.

Get the room correction system, otherwise, you are missing the point.

Beautiful Sub

I was ready to give this review 10 minutes after hooking up my sub but thought it appropriate to wait a week. I have Genelec 8250A monitors and this is the recommended sub for those speakers. The Genelec software corrected the 8250s for my room but my mixes were VERY unreliable under 80hz. I've tried subs before but they were unmatched and possibly out of phase. Finally I can hear under 80 with precision! It's not hyped (unless you want it to be with adjustment) it's just and even response down to the bottom of our hearing. This is the only system I would trust unless you're a whiz with finding phase and cross-over points. The GLM software finds it all more accurately than I ever could. Like I said, it'll build you a flat response and you can hype it any way you want with the software and switch back-n-fogth. Highly recommended. It's a game changer for me.
