From Our Research Team:Portable High-resolution Field RecorderThe 2-channel 702 is a powerful file-based digital audio recorder. The compact device records and plays back audio to cost-effective, removable Compact Flash cards, making field recording simple and fast. It writes and reads uncompressed PCM audio at 16 or 24 bits with sampling rates between 32kHz and 192kHz. Compressed (MP3) audio playback is also supported.Sound Devices 702 Digital Recorder at a Glance:
Premium preamps for high-bandwidth recording The 702 implements a no-compromise audio path that includes Sound Devices' next-generation microphone preamplifiers. Designed specifically for high-bandwidth, high-bit-rate digital recording, these preamps set a new standard for frequency response linearity, low distortion performance, and low noise. Pro features, compact size, ease of use Few recorders on the market match the 702's size or feature set. In addition, its learning curve is quite short - powerful does not mean complicated. While the 702T is a very capable recorder by itself, it truly excels when used in conjunction with an outboard audio mixer such as Sound Devices' own 442 or 302. Reliable CompactFlash storage The 702's CompactFlash storage is a highly-reliable industry standard. The removable, rechargeable battery is the popular Sony-compatible Li-ion camcorder cell. The 702 interconnects with Windows and Mac OS computers for convenient data transfer and backup. Sound Devices 702 Digital Recorder Features:

I literally LOVE the Sound Devices 702. I’ve been using mic pres like the Apogee Ensemble (an excellent device, don’t get me wrong) and lugging it around in a "portable" rack containing a MacBook Pro,... read more [+] a power conditioner, and a mile-long power chord. Taping down the cables and chords and tearing them back up again was very frustrating, especially while wearing orchestral concert dress. Getting sick of that, I realized battery power was the way to go and researched the 702. Set up takes ¼ the time it used to and the quality of the recording is stunning. The thing is so little you can hang it right on the mic stand -- such a small footprint! – so there are no mic cables to tape down, none on the floor at all. The device and the CF card are actually easier to use and far more reliable than computer hardware and recording software. Also, you simplify your recording pathway, and thus its quality, by removing the mic pre driver software, the recording software, the computer, and the polluted wall power from the path. It’s just the mics and your 702 leaving the software and the computer for what they’re really good for back in the studio. Plus it’s made in the USA; similar recorders on the market either have QA issues or are Swiss made with mountain-high Swiss prices. close [-]
