Modern & Vintage Voicings Meet in This PRS New Classic! Everything that makes a PRS such a hot, in-demand guitar can be found in the 513 Rosewood: A gorgeous flame maple "10-Top", tropical mahogany body and a neck crafted from rare Brazilian rosewood. But what really makes this instrument so special is in the versatility of its pickup switching. A blade switch delivers a fantastic array of both vintage and modern tones from five newly-designed pickups. To top it all off, the neck is constructed of a solid piece of rare Brazilian rosewood with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. If you're a collector or a player of fine guitars, the Paul Reed Smith 513 unquestionably fits the bill. Paul Reed Smith 513 Rosewood at a Glance:
The PRS 513 woods The PRS 513 features a solid, tropical mahogany back and a highly-figured carved maple 10-top, a combination that results in both tremendous tone and look that's guaranteed to turn heads. It also offers a Brazilian rosewood neck and fretboard, a 25 1/4-inch scale length (the first on any PRS guitar), a redesigned neck joint, and new gold mother of pearl bird inlays. Every single piece of wood that goes into a PRS Guitar is painstakingly chosen and carefully handled. An experienced PRS craftsman checks each piece for flaws, strength and stability. From the highly flamed curly maple to the genuine (and almost impossible to find) Brazilian rosewood, all PRS woods are dried in custom kilns to exacting specifications. After drying, the woods are carefully matched for a rich, warm tone, both in the bodies and the one-piece necks. PRS electronics The 513 Rosewood features a newly developed PRS pickup system, providing 13 modern and vintage sounds utilizing five proprietary single coil pickups. PRS pickups are built in-house to Paul's exacting specifications. Years of work and research have been spent on the important details, such as focusing on the highs so they sing instead of shriek, and contouring the bass tone so it's punchy, not boomy. After all, the subtleties are what make the difference in how your pickups sound. The PRS 513 Rosewood comes with a new easy-to-use integrated electronics control package which includes a volume control, tone control, and two blade switches that allow you to switch from a screaming lead to a smoky blues tone to a classic clean rhythm tone with just a flick of your wrist. It's like having a whole array of guitars all in one instrument.
What is a 10-Top? A very small percentage of the maple trees cut in North America are actually heavily figured. The way the wood is sawn also can contribute to the pattern of the figuring. To achieve "10-Top" status, a PRS top must have clearly defined figure across its entire top. Each guitar designated as a 10-Top will have a small "10" inked on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner. Some earlier PRS guitars have the 10 actually stamped into the finish in the same position. PRS Patented Tremolo System Fast and efficient, the PRS Tremolo System includes a special low-friction nut, a low headstock angle, PRS self-locking tuning pegs, a custom machined bridge and a pop-in adjustable arm. The self-locking tuning pegs were developed for fast, dependable tuning and quick string changes. You simply slide the string in, lock it, clip it and tune it - it's that fast. The PRS bridge pivots on a six point, hidden knife edge, allowing the bridge to return to it's original position every time. The saddles are held in a flush-fit pocket that prevents them from moving no matter how hard the arm is hit. In addition, the saddles are back-angled so you can feel the strings under your hand. Each part of the PRS Tremolo System works together to provide a successful, playable alternative to the usual pain of a locking system. Finishes and available colors Utilizing the most advanced finishing technology, PRS has developed high-gloss finishes and stains that exquisitely highlight the color and grain of the woods while retaining the fast, smooth feel of vintage lacquer. Because color is an important component in any guitar's appearance, PRS dyes are specially blended to look their very best under stage lights, shining with such luster and brilliance that the guitar truly looks every bit as good as it sounds. PRS Guitars are available in a rainbow of colors including Raspberry, Amber, Blue Matteo and Vintage Sunburst among many others. Paul Reed Smith 513 Rosewood Unique Features:
