I've owned a DBX 386 preamp for a better part of 10 years. For almost all of this time, it was my one and only preamp. I recorded TONS of material on it, and it has never failed. Recently, I spent $2,000 on a "boutique" premap, thinking it would bring my recordings to the next level, which it did, but what was surprising is that the difference b/w my high-end preamp and this DBX 386 is not huge. Many would say that it's minimal. Of course, every little bit of improvement helps, and my new preamp is better, but not by leaps and bounds, and some might say not worth the price difference. Nick SchenkelWhen my signal needs the warmth that only a tube preamp can give, my dbx 386 is always up to the task. This dual-channel tube pre is sonically beautiful, and thanks to the inclusion of the dbx Type IV Conversion System, I can use the S/PDIF output to keep my line level inputs free for keyboards and vintage analog gear. Easily one of the best options for anyone looking to take advantage of the S/PDIF inputs on their audio interface. Also popular
