MOTU 2408 Core MkIII PCIe System Reviews

5 4.5/5.0 based on 3 customer reviews

Sweetwater Advice

Ryan Sloan
The 2408 has been my "go to" PCI-based interface for native systems for years. The combination of high-bandwidth connection, extremely flexible digital I/O, and MOTU's rock-solid drivers make it hard to beat for many, many applications!

VERSATILE BOX

THIS BOX WE USE AS AND INTERFACE FOR OUR ROSETTA 800, & LUCID 88192. THE PCIE INTERFACE CARD ACTUALLY WORKS & SOUNDS BETTER THEN THE INTER-FACE IN THE APOGEE. MEANING NOT THE SOUND CARD ITSELF, BUT IT MADE THE ROSETTA/APOGEE SOUND BETTER USING LIGHT PIPES AND NOT USING THE FIRE-WIRE INTERFACE IN THE ROSETTA. NATURALLY THE CONVERTERS IN THE APOGEE, AND ESPECIALLY THE LUCID 88192 ARE BETTER. THE PCIE INTERFACE ON THE MOTU GETS 5 STARS. MADE OUR AD/DA AUDIO CONVERSIONS STELLAR IN OUR LIGHT PIPE COMMUNICATED HIGH END CONVERTERS. THE AUDIO DIRECTLY FROM THE MOTU IS GOOD BETTER THEN A OO3
PRO TOOLS LE BY FAR. ONCE YOU HOOK UP A HIGH WORD CLOCK $1.3K OR MORE IT MAKES EVEN THE AUDIO IN THE MOTU VERY VERY GOOD UP WITH THE BIG BIG BOYS . THE INTERNAL WORD CLOCK IS JUST GOOD. USE A GOOD WORD CLOCK AND THE MOTU GETS 4.7 STARS ON SOUND REPRODUCTION WITH EXTERNAL WORD CLOCK ATTACHED. THIS IS A WORK HORSE DUE TO ITS CONNECTIVITY VIA AES, ADAT, LIGHT PIE, SMUX, SPID, TDIF, ANALOG IT'S TRULY THE MOST VERSATILE CORE SYSTEM TO LINK YOUR HIGH END CONVERTERS $2.5K OR MORE.

MOTU 2408 mkIII

I upgraded this from a m-audio 1814 and I can tell you the sound is about 20 percent more accurate than the 1814. It had better stereo image and seemed like the sound was cleaner less noise. It however was not easy to set up with Pro Tools 9. You have to know your sample rate and buffer settings and set them in advance before you launch a previously recorded session or you will get an access violation and have to reboot Pro Tools. Upgraded to Pro Tools10 and seems more friendly. The cue mix takes some educating to use im still working on mastering that. Overall I like the interface a lot. Had it about 3 weeks now.
