"OUTSTANDING QUALITY THAT SHOULD COST MUCH MORE."

Exceptional results for voice or instrument.
As a Singer / tenor- the mic lim has been great for avoiding
distortion and the warmth and clarity are phenominal for this moderate amount of money.

In conclusion, a High Definition, analogue & digital preamp that can rival or better other preamps that are twice or more it's price and made in the USA as well.

WONDERFUL AND GREAT PRICE GET IT!

Okay sometimes you get crazy sometimes you drink too much beer sometimes you are just a gear junkie. Well in this case I bought this for NO REASON. Just to have it. Well kids let me tell you, I use an ALESIS DM10 Drum Set and connect it with 1/4 in. cables into the preamp. First let me say I used to use my 2 Ch. Joe Meek CS w/ EQ, COMP. APHEX BLEW IT AWAY! I Got euphonic from the sound. So its serendipity for me and this really good priced pre can be used for ANYTHING. I am a preamp addict literally I've tried em all (most of em) this should be up there with A Designs, Daking, Etc. Listen save money your ears cannot tell that much of a difference. At any rate BUT THIS PREAMP it is so wonderful plus it has of course Digital Output (S/PDIF) and word clock setttings (moot point for me I use apogee stuff for that). I mean if you have the money talk to the guys at sweetwater they are awesome and get a good API or Vintech, et. al. But for 2 channels and (DI x2) this is great. And a warning I would suggest going to sweetwater for expensive stuff there are other sites that I won't mention where used gear us sold. Get it new get it with technical support. All I know is sweetwater will be my company of choice for the rest of my life and when I'm bored I peruse the site learn so much. I usually don't like big business but people like Sage will help you out to find what you need and I am sure its because this is all of our passions here. I may have to move to Ft. Wayne after I get my degree :) But I do have one complaint - sweetwater you have me hooked on the laffy taffy I DEMAND MORE OF IT IN MY ORDERS banana flavor esp.! And none of those atomic balls that burn your mouth. :)

love you guys,

Warm & True

This preamp is really nice. I just plug it in & my vocals sound great. It even gave me the confidence to record vocals dry (used to monitor w/ reveb). I also love the warmth it gave my bass using the DI. Can't wait to get more mics & experiment. Great product.

Its a great pre

The sonic lift it gives to vocals and instruments, is terrific. This pre has a unique warmth of its own.

Average

The DI inputs are pretty sweet but the digital I/O is basicaly junk you don't need (i.e. changing the sample rate,, etc.) This does pack a punch for the price but I would save my money and get a Vintech 1272. However if this is your budget the aphex pre will do just finel.. Not great not bad just average.

Pretty decent stuff

This is a neutral pre with no coloration, a slightly forward midrange, and a little lacking in detail.

I got this to use with my 400f. The Onyx is a very clean, detailed preamp, and I wanted something with some vibe.

This preamp is not the one to get if you want some tube vibe. It sounds the same as the Onyx on vocals and on DI, very neutral and clear.

On acoustic guitar, I could hear a bit of a midrange boost, and it sounded a little more "forward" than the Onyx pres. The transient response wasn't quite as sharp, and the detail wasn't quite as good, but with the forward midrange is sounded just a little better to my ears.

Overall, there is pretty much no difference in sound between this and the Onyx, which is not a bad thing because they are both great sounding pres.

connections are great (inputs , outputs) noise floor is dissapointing , loud ..

THE INPUTS AND OUTPUTS ARE VERY NICE . I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE NOISE FLOOR RATIO WHEN USING THE 207D AS A 2 CH. D.I. . USING THE 207D WITH VOX IS'NT TO BAD IF YOUR SHOOTING FOR A UPGRADE FROM A BASIC MIXER OR STRAIGHT INTO A DIGITAL BOARD..I 'LL STICK WITH UNIVERSAL AUDIO 2-610 AND THE SSL XLOGIC SERIES, MANLEY etc... My Sweetwater Sales Engineer wasn't pushy like most "typical" sales people. His suggestions have been wonderful. I'm going to use you guys for life!
