On the road, on the stage, or in the studio, you'll always have incredibly powerful, professional sound with your Mackie 1402-VLZ3!Mackie 1402-VLZ3 at a Glance:
Tremendous XDR2 Preamps If you want excellent, professional sound, you need great mic pres - that's why Mackie put a lot of heart into the design of the 1402-VLZ3's XDR2 (Extended Dynamic Range) mic preamps. Delivering pure, clean, studio-grade sound, these pres have an impressively wide frequency range, especially in the low end, and even at extremely high gain settings. Switchable phantom power means you can use any of your favorite microphones with your 1402-VLZ3 and expect incredible, high-quality sound. While it's true that the VLZ3 mixers have gained an excellent reputation for more than just their mic pres, we can't help but attribute some of that fame to the XDR2's superb design. Premium musical EQ section The 1402-VLZ3 features an ultra-musical 3-band active EQ for tweaking and sculpting your signature sound. Mackie spent time optimizing the center frequencies of these EQs, and it shows on the 1402-VLZ3: enjoy low shelving at 80Hz, mid-peaking at 2.5kHz, and high shelving at 12kHz to shape your sound in any direction. Plus, up to 15dB boost/cut per band gives you an even higher level of flexibility and tone-sculpting control! Ultra-compact and professional It's hard to believe that Mackie packed so much 14-channel flexibility into one ten-pound mixer! With its array of ins, outs, and professional features, your 1402-VLZ3 is ready to tackle practically any audio mixing challenge the future presents. You will enjoy 75Hz low-cut filters, two aux sends, inserts, phantom power, constant-loudness pan controls, and pre fader solo on every mic channel. A full complement of output options include a control room/phones source matrix, master aux section with EFX to monitor, tape outputs, a high-volume headphone amplifier, and balanced XLR and TRS outs! Other premium features on the 1402-VLZ3 include an assignable solo AFL/PFL switch, independent left and right main output faders, and a level set LED. Plus, with its clever "mute" button, signals from muted channels are secretly routed to the Alt 3-4 outputs - ideal for creating submixes, previewing channels, or creating a "mix minus" for broadcast applications! And that's not to mention that, with the push of a button, the Alt 3-4 mix can be assigned to the main output - meaning, the alt 3-4 can basically act very much like a mixer within a mixer, giving you even more control over your sound. Sleek, rugged design Professionals around the world choose Mackie mixers for their road-proven, time-tested design. These 1402-VLZ3 Mixers are the same Mackie workhorses we've come to expect, designed to take some serious abuse, yet keep on sounding their best. With Mackie's legendary solid-steel chassis that protects it from any tough knocks, your 1402-VLZ3's control knobs even ride just above the surface of the chassis, transferring potential impact to the chassis - and not to the vital circuit board. Thick, horizontally mounted fiberglass PC boards add to the 1402-VLZ3's brick-like construction, giving it a shock-absorbing support structure that's truly built to last. Mackie 1402-VLZ3 Features:

After 13 years of flawless service, my original Mackie 1402-VLZ started to hiccup. Just a little, but enough to prompt a replacement. I upgraded from a Eurorack (Berhringer) and this product sounds MUCH cleaner. The precams sound pretty descent for only a $400 mixer. by Ernest Buckley from NYC
I was using the 1402 in a live church setting for almost 4 years. When Mackie introduced their updating version, I was producing in the box but things were getting frustrating, especially monitoring. ... read more [+]Knowing the Mackie 1402 from having worked with it in the church setting, I was excited to acquire the updated version. Here in my personal studio, I use it mostly for monitoring but will occasionally track through it and put together a small mix to send back into my DAW. September 24, 2008 Music Background: Musician, Producer The mixer is very quiet and the EQ is very useable, although I would love to have another band but then again, I could have just upgraded to the 1604 I guess. My objective was to get a small footprint mixer with quality construct and a simple layout. The 1402 VLZ delivers. I would have given this unit 5 stars but there are elements Mackie cut corners on that would have made life easier... 1. There are no mute lights. There is a solo blinking light in the master section but it would be easier if there were solo and mute lights on each channel. 2. I would love to have another headphone output & a volume control. Right not there is one headphone jack & volume is controlled by the Control Room Fader. 3. Additional Stereo Outs for monitors. Every time I record with a mic, I need to shut the monitors off. Again, no biggie but can get annoying after a while. I love the mute/alt button. By muting a channel, you send the signal to alt outs 3-4. This creates some interesting routing options for such a small mixer. Anyone looking to get out of the box but doesn`t want to splurge on a larger console, give the 1402 a serious look. Also, I think the price was raised, I thought I payed $399 when it was first released. close [-] Also popular
