24-Bit/96kHz 01V!

Digital audio technology has come a long way since the early days of 16 bits at 44.1 kHz - a format that many considered to be the reason for "harsh", "cold" sound. The entire industry is now settling on 24-bit/96-kHz digital operation for significantly superior sonic quality. The Yamaha 01V96V2 does give you a choice - you can work at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, or 96 kHz, depending on the needs of each individual project. But when you want the truly transparent, incredibly dynamic sound of 24-bits at 96 kHz, the 01V96V2 is ready to deliver. It even includes a comprehensive range of superb 96-kHz compatible stereo effects with 32-bit internal processing.

Yamaha 01V96V2 At a Glance
  • Version 2 Software Allows Add-on Plug-ins
  • 24 Analog & Digital Channel Inputs and Expandable to 40
  • Built-in ADAT Optical Interface
  • Integrated DAW Control
  • Surround Panning
  • Rear Panel Connectivity

Version 2 Software Allows You to Utilize Effect Plug-ins
Yamaha's 01V96V2 ships with the upgraded Version 2 software to enable add-on effects plug-ins for expanded mixing and mastering capabilities. In addition, Yamaha's upgraded Studio Manager software has new editing abilities and onscreen control.

24 Analog & Digital Channel Inputs ... Expandable to 40
Right out of the box the Yamaha 01V96V2 gives you 16 analog channel inputs - 12 with high-performance microphone head amplifiers - and eight digital channel inputs via a built-in ADAT optical interface. The first 12 analog channels will accept microphone signals or balanced/unbalanced line-level signals, while the remaining four channels can be used either as individual balanced/unbalanced line inputs or two stereo pairs. Without going any further you're ready to handle a comprehensive mix of analog and digital inputs. When you need more, Yamaha offers a range of Mini-YGDAI expansion cards that can simply be plugged into the 01V96V2 expansion slot to provide additional I/O in a variety of formats: ADAT, AES/EBU, TDIF or analog.

Built-in ADAT Optical Interface
The Yamaha 01V96V2 comes with an industry-standard ADAT optical digital I/O interface built right in - no options necessary. ADAT "Lightpipe" optical I/O is standard on a wide range of current digital sound gear, so you can simply plug in via optical cables for 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs that will handle your digital signals without compromise. Additional optical I/O capacity can be added via the 01V96 expansion slot, as necessary.

Integrated DAW Control
The Yamaha 01V96V2 has been designed to integrate tightly with leading digital audio workstations to create a complete production and mixing environment. Extensive support is provided for Digidesign's Pro Tools system as well as Steinberg's Nuendo DAW - full control of mixing and processing parameters, as well as transport/track-arming control and access to editing functions - directly from the 01V96 control surface. There's also a "General DAW" mode that provides compatibility with other workstations.

Surround Panning
Surround is becoming an important part of modern sound production. The Yamaha 01V96V2 features 6.1, 5.1 and 3-1 surround panning modes so you can create surround mixes without having to sacrifice features or performance in other areas.

Rear Panel
The 01V96V2's rear panel is home to balanced analog stereo and monitor outputs as well as four balanced "omni" outputs. The optical IN and OUT connectors for the 01V96V2's built-in ADAT interface are also located on the rear panel. There are also digital 2-track inputs and outputs featuring coaxial connectors. On-board sample rate conversion allows CD players and other digital sources connected to the digital input to be monitored or routed to an input channel without having to be synchronized to the system clock. A range of synchronization and control options are available via word clock inputs and outputs, MIDI connectors, and a USB "TO HOST" connector which can be used for computer control via the supplied Studio Monitor software. The 01V96V2's rear panel also has an expansion slot which will accept a wide range of Yamaha mini-YGDAI expansion cards that can add up to 16 additional channels in a variety of formats.

The Best for The Price

I have been looking to upgrade my recording board for some time. I contacted Dave Walent, and he recommended the Yamaha 01V96VCM. He said that the 01V96VCM has been an industry standard and a lot of... read more [+] music has been recorded on this board. I read many reviews on the 01V96VCM and decided to give it a try, so I went ahead and order the board. Let’s set the tone here, I use a digital mixer (will not say what other brand) and a Mackie HDR 24/96 hard disk recorder for recording on all my previous music. I was having fun, but always lacked the more open / clear sound that I was looking for. As soon as I fired some songs that were previously recorded thru this board I noticed a difference right away. I could hear the bass and a lot of mud had disappeared. Again, this is on music that was recorded with a not so good board. Mixing was much easier because I could hear the music. I quickly burned a CD thru my masterlink and to the car I went. The CD in the car sounded great and what I heard in the studio monitors is what I was hearing in the car. Thank goodness!!!! Did I say reverbs and delays? The reverbs and delays that come with this board are outstanding. If you do not have good effects get this board. The VCM effects are way better than what I was using before and for the price of this board it is a steal. Did I mention Compression? There actually three different compressors that can be used. I like the idea that there are presets on the compressors that I can use and tweak to perfection. Did I say EQ? There are three different EQs that can be used and again can be tweaked to perfection. Did I say limiter? I run some recorded drums thru this board with the limiter on and started turning up the gain on the channel. The sound got bigger and bigger without clipping the board. This is going to work great when recording drummers that start playing light and get louder as they warm up. I have only touched on some of the capabilities of this board, because it would take too long to go thru every detail. One thing I will tell you, read the owner’s manual. This board can be overwhelming if you don’t know anything about mixing boards. I owned a digital board for 10 years prior to purchasing the 01V96VCM, and it still took me a couple of weeks (during the evenings) to master all the features that this board has. If you stick with it, you will come to realize what a great piece of gear this board is. The 01V96VCM (with all of its features), a couple of good microphones, and an alternate preamp to change up the textures on a few of the tracks and you are good to go. If the talent was right, this board is all you would need to produce a high quality musical CD. Money is tight these days and the Yamaha 01V96VCM is hands down the best way to add a lot power to a studio without breaking the bank. There may be better boards out there, but who could afford them. close [-]

Our Customers Say...

My Sales Engineer is the best. If I need it tomorrow, I have it tomorrow. He makes sure everything is in order and that I'm set up right. I've spent a lot of money at other places, too, but I don't remember them calling me to make sure everything's okay.
