Korg X5

Been dreaming of owning a quality Korg synthesizer ever since you heard their first AI-based synth, the landmark M1? Or when you saw an 01/W on stage with just about every major rock band? Let's face it, Korg has had a major impact on the modern keyboard scene with just about every instrument they've released. Now that legendary Korg sound and performance is within reach of just about every musician on the planet thanks to the introduction of the Korg X5 Keyboard ($1100 retail) and X5DR Tone Module ($895 retail).

Of course, when it comes to sound quality, Korg only has one standard — the highest. That's why both the X5 Keyboard and X5DR Module are powered by the same powerful Advanced Integrated (AI) synthesis engine that fueled the M1, 01/W, 03R/W and the X3.

The X5 Keyboard ships with a total of 340 multi-sounds and 164 drum sounds residing within the instrument's six megabytes of ROM memory. You get all of your basic food groups: pianos, strings, brass, winds, guitars and basses plus assorted drums and percussion, all sampled and looped with meticulous attention to detail by Korg's crack team of sound designers.

Also packed into this powerhouse are 47 different pro quality effects ranging from lush reverb to rotary speaker. Add a rich assortment of 236 programs and 100 Combinations (including 128 standard General MIDI programs) and you're set for just about any musical venture you might possibly imagine. You can even store another 100 programs and 100 combinations of your own in the X5's RAM memory

The X5 weighs in at a mere ten pounds, making it the lightest, most compact keyboard Korg has ever released. You get 61 full sized velocity sensitive keys, modulation and pitch bend wheels, 32-note polyphony and full MIDI implementation. With its built-in computer interface and 16-part multi-timbral capability, the X5 is a great choice for music/computer applications.

The X5DR Module includes many of the same features as the X5, but offers an incredible 64 notes of polyphony, so you'll rarely have to think about running out of notes, no matter how complex your sequences (or on-stage solos) might get. It also comes with internal ROM waveform memory that's been expanded to a full eight megabytes featuring 430 Multisounds and 215 drum and percussion sounds, giving it one of the largest sound palettes of any synth now available. The X5DR comes with two complete sound sets, each of which contain 100 programs plus a complete 128 program General MIDI set. Since the X5DR is ready to hook up to any computer via MIDI, it's the perfect choice for your multimedia system.
