Like sine waves and square waves, triangle waves are commonly found and used in audio production, and they are a common waveform source on synthesizers. A triangle wave’s shape is characterized by a linear increase or decrease in amplitude over time, followed by a linear change in amplitude at the same rate in the opposite direction. As indicated by its name, this wave has a triangular shape when viewed on a plot referenced to time. Sonically triangle waves exhibit a strong fundamental with relatively weak, odd numbered harmonics.
