Many different sources recommend turning off Windows system sounds as part of an overall DAW optimization strategy, but a somewhat lesser-known trick is to turn off "hardware mapping" for your pro audio interface as well. Turning off hardware mapping will kill any additional warning sounds that may not have been deactivated by turning off Windows system sounds. Turning off hardware mapping can also cure audio interface performance issues (such as mild pops and clicks and device-specific control panel functionality glitches). Try turning off hardware mapping for the device by using this procedure:

1. Click on: Start / Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices.

2. Choose the "Hardware" tab, highlight your sound card from the list and click the "Properties" button at the bottom.

3. Choose the "Properties" Tab at the top and then expand the "Audio Devices" selection in the list so it shows your device.

4. Highlight your sound card from the list, click on the "Properties" button of the page that comes up and put a check in the box that says: "Do not map through this device".

Now re-launch the audio application that was not functioning harmoniously with your audio card and see if the issue has been resolved.
