Getting mono L & R soundfiles burned to a CD
12/21/1999

"I use the Yamaha Easy CD Creator. I also have the Digidesign Session 8. If I want to create a CD from a project on my S8, how do I turn those S8 files that are written as separate files into L+R Stereo files for the CD? I don't see how I can tie them together as stereo files to be recorded onto the CD."

Session 8? Wow, that's a blast from the past. Cool system though. I assume you are mixing your multitrack sessions down to a two-track master. If not, that is definitely step one. Each Session 8 track shows up as a single .wav file (PC) or SDII file (Mac). It does not have any ability to make stereo files. Virtually any program on those respective platforms claiming to deal with audio can read those mono files. The tricky part, however, is whether or not the software can be made to understand that the two mono files are in fact the left and right channels of a stereo mix. More software is getting better at dealing with this, but I don't know off hand about Easy CD Creator. If it does not have the ability to pull your two mono files in as a stereo pair then you are going to need some audio editing software in between to make an interleaved stereo file out of the two mono files. There are numerous programs that will do this. Your Sweetwater Sales Engineer can help you pick the one that's best.
