Any time someone publishes a paper, on a web site, or on a recording, they own the copyright to that material. Though not totally necessary, it's always best to put the letter "C" in the circle along with the date and your name any time you wish to protect your work. Everyone knows the "C" in a circle means "copyright," but you also often see the latter "P" in a circle on CDs and cover art. This indicates that you or your record company or studio owns the rights to not only the sound recordings, but also the rights to the entire collection and even the order in which they are presented.
