It depends. Anytime you run an application that messes around with your OS and the basic functionality of your computer there are risks. If you would characterize yourself as a neophyte on the Mac you may be better off just paying your tech to take care of things for you. There is no shame in this. Many of us have better things to do with our computers than learning all about what makes them tick (or not). If you are an aspiring nerd (term used with all due respect) you may find it helpful, and a good tool to begin to open up some of the mysteries for you. If you are fairly Mac savvy you may not need it at all. I've been getting by without it for years. When I suspect an extension conflict I use the built in Extension Manager, which is a Control Panel for managing...you guessed it...your extensions, to set my extensions back to the Base set (the computers basic default set). Then I reboot and slowly add extensions back in until I find the guilty culprit. It can be a time consuming process, but if you do it logically it's not too bad. This is exactly what Conflict Catcher does, only it does it all automatically. You can usually just walk away and let it go to work, coming back later to see the results.
