Q: I don't understand Martin's "0" method of naming acoustic steel-string guitar models. What's the difference between them all?

A: The "0" naming method is used by Martin to indicate the size of the guitar's body.

12-fret models (6-string)

  • 0 - body length: 19-1/8", body width: 13-1/2"

  • 00 - body length: 19-5/8", body width: 14-1/8"

  • 000/OM - body length: 20-9/16", body width: 15"

  • D - body length: 21", body width: 15-5/8"

14-fret models (6- and 12-string)

  • 00 - body length: 18-7/8", body width: 14-5/16"

  • 000/OM - body length: 19-3/8", body width: 15"

  • 0000/M/J - body length: 20-1/8", body width: 1"

  • D - body length: 20", body width: 15-5/8"
