Crashing MAS plug-ins.

“I’m using Audiodesk, and recently updated MAS to version 2.3x. Now my plug-ins list shows a lot of duplicate plug-ins with “(multi)” after the names. When I choose one of them, Audiodesk freezes or crashes. What’s up?”

MAS version 2.3 and higher includes the capability to have multi-channel plug-ins for surround sound applications. This feature was added to accommodate Digital Performer 3’s new surround mixing capabilities. Since Audiodesk does not have surround features yet these “Multi” plug-ins may cause problems when selected. It is best to stick with MAS 2.12 until you go with Digital Performer or upgrade your Audiodesk software. You should remove the old MAS and install an earlier version supplied on your MOTU Core installer CD. Here’s how to do this:

1. Quit all applications
2. Open the System folder (on your Macintosh HD)
3. Locate and open the Extensions folder.
4. Locate the MOTU folder, and drag it into the TRASH ***
5. Restart your computer, and insert the MOTU Core Installer CD.
6. Launch the MOTU/Audiodesk installer
7. After accepting the licensing terms, change the install option from EASY INSTALL to CUSTOM INSTALL.
8. Select MOTU Audio System ONLY by placing an X in the box next to it.
9. Choose INSTALL and proceed.
10. After restart, you should be able to run Audiodesk normally.

*** If you have 3rd party plug-ins installed, remove them from the plug-ins folder inside the MOTU folder (you can drag them to the desktop) before trashing the MOTU folder. Then return them to the new plug-ins folder after the core installation is complete.
