Mac OS X Screen Captures

Since the dawn of Macintosh computers in the mid 1980s, there has been a standard key combination (usually called a shortcut) that takes a screen shot of whatever is on the computer’s entire screen, including the top menu bar, and saves it to the desktop. This is Command+Shift+3. Command+Shift+4 allows for capture of a specific chosen area of the screen, though by holding down the Control key at the same time (Command+Control+Shift+3), the image is copied to the clipboard instead of the desktop. These shortcuts also work in Mac OS Classic. Mac OS X users may also use a utility called Grab to take screenshots. This is located in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.
