In this video, I’m checking out the TC Electronic Alter Ego. This isn’t just another delay, it’s got some of the best sounding and feeling vintage delay models I’ve ever played. Outside of the vintage realm, there’s also a 40-second looper onboard and a slot for a custom TonePrint setting.
The sampling is super-deep and the results are awesome. The analog models have just the right amount of degradation on each repeat, the tape delays all have their own warble and sway, and of course, TC nailed the iconic 2290 delay sound; plus, they all sound equally great in stereo or mono.
Another nice feature, TC picked three of the most useable rhythmic subdivisions and put them on a tiny switch. Quarter note, dotted-eighth, or a combination of the two can be easily applied to any of the delay models. The small switch also keeps the footprint of the pedal smaller.
One feature I really dig is the audio tap function, which allows you to set the tempo by strumming your guitar instead of tapping the footswitch. It feels more natural than trying to stomp a pedal at a specific tempo, and makes it easy to sync the delay effect to whatever song you’re playing.
In all, the TC Electronic Alter Ego delay pedal has a deep and natural sound, is very musical, and easy to get a great tone out of. Thanks for watching!
