Q: I purchased a new guitar, and the neck gets sticky after I play it a bit. Is there something I should be doing for it?
A: Our bet is that the neck is finished in nitrocellulose. Nitro doesn’t “dry,” it “cures.” Until it is fully cured, which can sometimes take a few months, it may feel slightly sticky to the touch. But don’t worry, the finish isn’t coming off the neck and you are not damaging it by touching it.
The best solution? Play your new guitar — a LOT! Before you know it, the stickiness will be gone.
