A type of equalizer circuit that is used to cut and boost a signal above or below a specified frequency, as opposed to boosting or cutting on both sides of a selected frequency, which is what happens with a typical peak/dip EQ. Quite often the hi and low band equalizers built into mixing boards are shelving type.
